    What makes a song good, in your opinion?

    For me, Ill check out a song/album/band if it matches at least 2 of the following criteria;

    Is it;

    -Dark

    -Angry

    -Fast

    -Loud

    -Unique

    Good lyrics are a plus

    This ideals of music has lead me to Black and death metal, goth rock ( my favorite 3 genres), folk metal, doom metal, too many other kinds of metal to list... industrial, aggrotech/ harsh EBM,hardcore punk, metalcore, rock. Basically anything that meets those requirements is fair game.

    What are your qualities to look for in a song?(!)

    I can find something I enjoy in a multitude of genres. But what really speaks to me is the lyrics, and a unique voice. Those are my two holy grail criteria for mega-fan status.

    For me, if I don't like the voice it's an instant deal breaker. I won't listen to it. Otherwise of the voice is nice, I'll listen to almost any genre. I like deep, metaphorical lyrics but that's only a bonus. My preferred genres are alternative rock, hard rock, metal, post hardcore, alternative metal, some classical style things too... But I have a wide variety in music taste, and listen to nearly anythin as long as there's a good vocalist

    When I'm listening to a song, I don't really look for anything in it, just whether if I like it or not. I don't have a list or anything to check off for any songs that I might like. If I find it good then I'll keep listening.

    It varies a lot for me. Basically I just like music that fits my mood at any given time.

    99% of the time I prefer a male singer.

    Next would be the sound/style of the music. I like indie, alt rock, and some folk. Also I really like sad music in general.

    i like what i like when i hear it. generally if a song really speaks to me there's something wild and intense about it. if i actively seek out something to listen to it generally falls under IDM, liquid dubstep/dnb, neo classical, post rock or prog metal.

    Meaningful lyrics and meaningful melodies. The notes themselves can express emotion, and when you combine that with words that share something real, you have a great song instead of just a good one. There are tens of thousands of good songs, and I think I have yet to hear a couple dozen that make me go "wow".

    I like energetic music you can headbang to, and I prefer songs with atmospheres/lyrics that I can somehow relate to:

    Angry
    Chaotic
    Complex
    Dark
    Dramatic
    Esoteric
    Heroic
    Manic
    Murderous
    Philosophical
    Rebellious

    Depends on my mood. I switch from depressing lyrics to amazing rock music. So yeah.

    I'll listen to pretty much any genre. Depending on mood I can go from popmusic to death metal to folk. Atm I'm very into 60's doo-wop/rock n roll girl groups, 90's punk rock/riot grrrl and the last weeks I've been obsessing over First Aid Kit's live performances :lol:

    So I can't really put my finger on what I look for in a song but I deffo want some originality or I'm out.
