So after watching the San Diego Comic Con footage. I wonder if anyone else is super excited about Steven Universe, and the upcoming stevenbomb. If there are people who haven't seen it yet I would highly recommend it. It has alot of LGBT representation including space lesbians, and non-gender conforming individuals. Its one of those amazingly rare great animated cartoons, and I think you should give it a shot! Who else is a huge fan of Steven Universe?
I've gotten really into Steven Universe in the past few months, too. I love it! A friend introduced me to it and we are both eagerly awaiting this week's Steven Bomb. Not only is it a great show, but it's wonderful how they've so casually and seamlessly included LGBT representation without batting an eye. Yes, they're aliens, but they are female-coded aliens (even though the gems are supposed to be genderless) in what are very clearly same sex relationships.
I love Steven Universe, and it gives me so much hope in Cartoon Network going back to how glorious it was in the 90s and early 00s. It's so cool to see a kid show that has open LGBTQ representation, but also one that balances light-hearted moments with ones that are just so dark and don't hold back on the punches. You go, Rebecca Sugar!
Aw man this show is really beautiful, and I can't recommend it enough. I love how it's so amazingly inclusive without drawing attention to itself. It just tells good stories with great characters. Everything is told so honestly and sweetly. I love it.
When I saw Pearl, I saw myself. That sounds ridiculous but it's true. I adore Pearl because I relate so much to her - the good and the bad. I am honestly delighted that a TV show like this exists. It has actually made me cry with happiness on several occasions, because I feel like I'm either a lesbian or a bisexual with a heavy preference for women, and I had no idea being gay was a thing at all until I was about 13, and didn't know that it was okay until I was 15. If I had something like Steven Universe to educate me (because my parents certainly didn't, and homosexuality was the occasionally derided elephant in the room at school), I feel that I would have heavily benefitted from it. Knowing that today's generation of kids are growing up with something that not only features representation but is truly positive and interesting and good makes me incredibly happy. I am 19 now, and a writer, and if I can make something with a similar impact, I will be over the moon.
I absolutely love Steven Universe. Now that I caught up with the 2nd season, I can safely say that Pearl, Peridot and Jasper are my fav characters. But everyone else is pretty likeable too, which is something that I only found possible in this show and maybe Over the Garden Wall. And thumbs up for representation.
I'm very glad that this show exists, and the representation is great- I find it especially awesome that it's aimed at kids as well as other ages. I wish I had this show when I was younger. Yeah, it's good, and when it comes to shows I find it hard to find favourites but this one is definitely a favourite. Also *nudges at icon to the left*
