I know I'm late but I have just watched Brokeback Mountain for the first time. The ending was so sad :tears: I want to cry but I can't! What do you think about this movie guys? I think it's underrated.

Underrated? Omg, everyone I know has heard of/watched that movie.

I haven't... though I may, 'cos ya know... Jake Gyllenhaal.

Depending on the responses you get on this thread, I may watch it.

I've seen it twice and found it really boring and slow-paced. I didn't like that their relationship played second fiddle to their marriages. The acting was great though.

It's definitely not underrated, it was nominated for a bunch of awards, and won quite a few.

I haven't seen it in some time, and I don't think I've sat down and watched the whole thing beginning to end in one go. Still, I thought that it was a good movie. No movie is perfect, and I think Ennis/Jack's relationship was a bit of stretch when it comes to how many years go by through the movie. But it's a good representation of how far homosexual approval has come.

I'd recommend it to anyone who was on the fence to see it or not.

i thought …yet another depressing film about how being gay means getting beaten up … a horrible life or dead

the first sex scene was clumsy and felt very unrealistic

    nice scenery

I liked the landscapes x) No but seriously it was really pretty.
The movie itself is nice too, the ending is sad but I liked it overall.

It's underrated in my country. Only around 1 out of 10 people here know this movie.

I think it was perfect and incredible, it captured internalised homophobia as I have seen it!

Never watched it. I don't watch gay male movies but because I've heard broke back was good and I liked Heath ledger as an actor I might watch it someday. I'm not going to understand the emotional part of the movie at all but I guess I'd be happy watching if it's good in other areas.

I've watched one too many Lesbian movies though  they're sooo cute! X

I haven't seen it yet but I want to. I picked it up at a second movies store a while ago but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

I haven't seen it yet, or wanted to see it because of the sad ending. I'll probably read the short story it was based on, though. Not sure if it has the same ending.

I really enjoyed it when I saw it way back when. Based on my memory I'd say it was an 8/10.

    ALL the scenery porn.

Gave me a whole new respect for Ledger and his acting skills. Versatile.

I wasn't a huge fan of Brokeback Mountain. It was an okay movie, but there were a lot of problems with it. However, I suppose it was good for it's time. Finding good movies about gay men is very difficult.

Although, if you liked Brokeback Mountain, I HIGHLY suggest that you go and watch Weekend immediately. It's one of the few movies that I think got it all right. The sex was right, the romance was right, the characters were believable and therefore right. I loved it, and I am confident that if you loved Brokeback Mountain that you will love it too.

The link above will take you to Rotten Tomatoes critics reviews. Below is the trailer.

It was robbed of an Oscar. Only reason it didn't get one was because of rampant homophobia at the time.

I watched it for the first time last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm afraid they didn't do a good job portraying the extent to which homophobia would infiltrate a queer man's life in 1960s small town Wyoming, though - I assure you that it was much, much worse than was shown. The environment in the movie was something more akin to what you would see in the 90s-present day.

Agreed, just like The Dark Knight I thought Ledger's acting was the best part of the movie.
