200 Pounds Beauty

    Alright, a major hobby of mine is watching asian films.
    My favorites being the horror movies and the dramas.

    Well, last night I watched one of the cutest romantic dramadies.
    It's a Korean film called '200 Lbs. Beauty'.
    As you can guess from the implying title, the main character is far from skinny.

    Anyways, it tells the story of Kang Han-na who is a phone sex operator and a vocalist for pop sensation Ammy, who cannot actually sing. Basically, Han-na has the voice for the industry but not the body/face whereas Ammy has the look, just not the talent.
    Han-na was completely happy with the situation until the night of the director of the music company's birthday, whom she has a crush on. Ammy humiliates her and while crying in the bathroom, Han-na overhears Sang-jun (the director) telling Ammy that even though she is fat and ugly (they use these words a lot when referring to Han-na) they need to be nice to her or she will walk out on them.
    Han-na is emotionally shattered and she goes home with the intent of ending her life. Well, as she's lying in bed and waiting for the gas to fill her home, her phone rings. It's one of her phone sex customers who also happens to be a plastic surgeon. It's then that her mind hatches this brilliant plan.
    She goes to his office and blackmails him into giving her a full body makeover. It takes her a year to recover, but the surgery is a success and now Han-na has the image to go with her voice.

    Okay, so I don't want to reveal anymore.
    But I will say that this movie is incredibly touching and I was bawling at the end of the film.
    It's incredibly adorable, and the things that happen to her once she's "beautiful" are absolutely hilarious (such as getting in a car accident and the man she hit doesn't care because she's a gorgeous woman).

    I know so much about this movie without having even seen it. One of my best friends at college is OBSESSED with Asians and he makes us watch Asian movies and listen to his music (one of them being that covered Blondie song lol). Lately I've refused to watch 200 Lbs of Beauty but if I get a recommendation from a fellow ECer, I think I may watch it. I'm a film major anyway, I love watching movies. :slight_smile:

    They exaggerate her weight a lot, which is funny, but also kinda sad.

    Yea, she really isn't that big, seriously. She just isn't a toothpick. I hate it when people act like not being normal is bad -.- >_<

    A part that made me cry was when they tried to move the hospital gurney.
    I didn't find it funny at all. Just really sad and emotional.

    Tis also the reason I'm afraid if somethin is to ever happen to me, how they're gonna get me to the hospital :O

    Finished watching it... I hate sad happy endings -.-; But at least it isn't a Girl winds up with the Guy type of ending XD

    Favorite part of movie...

    The Traffic Crash Scene... I laughed for like 10 minutes.

    Husband yells and screams a lot, then sees her and is amazed.
    Police Officer comes up.
    Wife: There was an accident...
    Police Officer looks at her and is amazed.
    Hanna: Oh, you're bleeding!
    Husband: Oh, it's nothing (as he pats off a ton of blood coming off his head)
    Police Officer: I saw the whole thing. You cut in front of her.
    Husband: Oh of course.

    I also loved it when she bought the car because he said, "You're gorgeous."

    And I really liked the scene where she was jumping around in her old clothes in the hospital.

    Mmkay, well I watched this movie. And it was a lot more than I expected it to be! The part where she said "You broke my heart... tissue can't fix that" broke MY heart. u.u That whole scene was so sad!
    *goes to cry for a while*

    So anyway. The movie didn't actually make my cry, but that's because my eyes are like defective and refuse to cry ever. >.> But it was still an awesometastic movie!

    And after that I decided I wanted to watch a non-sad movie, so I watched "Secret" with Jay Chou... that was definitely NOT a non-sad movie! Holy damn. I really want to watch something happier so I don't cry myself to sleep. -.-

    I watched it not too long ago, and while I liked it for the most part...I know several 200-pound people, and they're not that big. The way her suit looked in the movie, she could have passed for 250 or maybe pushing 300.
