    Movie and videogame soundtracks

Is anyone else here a fan of movie scores? Or video games. Those have epic music as well. What's sparking this whole thing now is I recently rewatched Divergent and noticed that the music is just astounding. I absolutely love it. It sets the tone of the scene and surroundings and gets you all excited. But I think the first soundtrack I ever downloaded was Laskey's Theme from the Halo 4 album. There's just something about it. Anyway, I really love this kind of music and I feel it's somewhat understated so if anyone else likes it, let's talk about it (&&&). Just wondering who else is into it.

I love soundtracks, and just instrumental groups in general. As someone who loves to write and create, I find that it really can set the tone for certain scenes/moods. And is beneficial to the overall quality. That being said, I had a friend who also likes to write, and she can't write to instrumental, only lyrical. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I currently have around 200 songs in my instrumental playlist. That used to be significantly bigger, but I had to hop computers and move my iTunes, which got rid of it all. But I'm slowly getting back to the number I once had.

Mass Effect 3 had an excellent soundtrack, 'Leaving Earth' is one of the most beautiful OST songs I've ever heard. 28 Days Later has a pretty good track as well, with 'In A Heartbeat' being awesome (in my opinion). The Last of Us, and the new Mad Max: Fury Road have pretty good tracks as well. Depending on what you're looking for.

'Time' from Inception is a OST classic. And is one of the most popular ones (based on media sites such as YouTube).

If you ever want to compare soundtracks, or other instrumental songs, let me know. I'd love to find new music, and maybe help you find some stuff too. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Queen of the Damned soundtrack was a somewhat a gateway for me to start getting into heavier stuff and later heavy metal. Final Fantasy X i somewhat liked the whole score, each one has it's memorable moments from the video game and that's what i liked about it the most. from beginning to end.

I love the soundtrack from "Le fabeleux destin d'Amelie Poulain".
Other than that, no soundtracks have stuck with me. Although I do have a CD with the soundtrack from 'Kingdom Hearts' that I like to listen to when I paint :3

The Inception soundtrack... so, so good.

In terms of games, I have all the Halo soundtracks. I think they're pretty epic. The Halo 4 album is brilliant, despite it not being Marty O'Donnell. I bet the Last of Us soundtrack is pretty chilled/haunting. I love that game.

This may seem way out in left field but I'm very keen on the music of Super Smash Bros, especially the newest iteration of it. There is something to be said for a game that takes it's music from other mediums and games and can some how make it all feel like it's in the correct place. Every song feels like it matches the game and yet they are all so different. Especially the music in the menu! I don't think I could ever get tired of SSB's menu.

For some reason, I really love Batman: Under the Red Hood's soundtrack, especially "Main Titles"--the artwork was awesome. Final Fantasy VII Advent Children's ost was pretty good too. I choose you, metal version "One Winged Angel"!

Cliff Martinez's soundtrack to the cable show The Knick is just amazing. The electronic score for a medical show that takes place in 1900 New York works amazingly well. Here's a YouTube playlist for the soundtrack.

Cliff Martinez's website has a section where you can download some of his past film scores for free. I like the scores for "Traffic" and "The Limey".

I've been listening to a lot of M83 lately too, and they did the score for the Tom Cruise movie "Oblivion".
