Another one I made up today, and yes, it's without a happy ending as well. Actually, it does have an ironic happy ending, if you look at it right.

"In a realm of magic and fantasy, everything is expected to end with a happy ending, but even in such a realm, happy endings are only fairy tales and myth. For reality is a burden, ridden with insanity, greed, and pain."

A fight, the first fight. Never before have Chris and James shown anger towards each other, one so tangible and heated. The quarrel ends quickly, with James slamming the large iron door behind him, leaving a sense of dread in his wake as he grudgingly walks down the cobblestone path to the village below. Chris sighs and leans onto the windowsill. He stares out towards the coast, over the vast open sea, into the endless sky with shades of blue and gray. Their son, Leo scales the steps to the upper level of the brick encased dwelling, releasing a small yawn. He peers at his father, whom is staring blankly out the window.

Chris does not cry from loss, nor does he yell from anger, for he is lost deep in thought of the past, of time before trouble began. He wishes that time was as it was, when he and James first met, where they had no worries other then fending off evil creatures, which they found entertaining. It all seems lost with time now.

James continues down the winding path towards the mass of villagers that bustle through out the town market. He too, wishes for time to reverse it's flow and return to an age of more content times. A spirit, as dark hearted as the depths of hell, heard their wish. She whispered into the ears of the men, with a lisp and tone of seemingly bitter amusement. "I have heard your wish, and shall grant it."

A surge of energies fills the souls of James, Chris, and Leo, a visible light emanates from their spirits, glowing as a powerful aura around them. James falls forward, on his knees, his arms soaked in the fountain in the town market, as Chris and Leo fall to the floor, Chris clutching his own chest, Leo pressing against his own forehead. After a moment's respite, the light show was over.

A glance into the fountain and James saw the effects immediately, there in his reflection was his youth, he felt it too, as his memories were flooded with every joyous moment he and Chris spent together. Another whisper was heard, silent chills creeping down James's spine. "To gain one happiness, is to lose another." At this, a thought of horror flickered through his mind as he rushed towards his home atop the hill, with a feeling of mourning building up inside of him, he feared his beloved was lost.

With a forceful kick, he shattered the rusty iron hinges with woods scattering about. There stood before him, his lover Chris, standing alive and well. James broke down into tears, for he saw Chris mourning as well, but not of the thought of loosing him. Leo was gone.
