So I've just finished reading a really really really good series of books.
I feel like I could just continue to read about those characters forever, but alas, there are no more books about them and I feel a little bit empty and lost without them now.

Sure, I could just read the series over again, but it won't be like the first time.
Sure, I could find other books, but that won't be the same either.

Anyone got any tips for getting over this empty feeling?

Been there MANY times. Try reading or writing fanfiction and also wait a good long while before reading the series again. Then it will feel like new.

I had that feeling when I finished the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Legend of Korra, Mass Effect 3 :'(

Got no tips but to move onto something new.

I read or watch something much shorter before starting another big-commitment series. This is to ease me out of the just finished series, remind me that there are other stories just as well told out there, etc. It's mourning on a small scale but it's also that sense of savoring a story well told and wanting to get that feeling again.

    Ah, stories!

Just wondering, what series was it?

Seconded! You can also surf sites like tumblr for fanart, quotes, interpretations, recommendations, et cetera.

Tales from Foster High (and other stories from that universe). Gay-lit
I actually tweeted the author today to say thank you and he said that there's three more on the way, so yay.

An author responds---how awesome is that? Nice!

You wait it out. It's gonna pass, the empty feeling I mean.

Sometimes you wait it out, sometimes for me I look into related media- eg other stuff the writer has written, fanfiction if that's down your alley, all that stuff. It just takes time really. I get that it's hard to find a new series after you've finished a really good one, nothing seems to match up to it. Good luck though, I know rereading it is not the same but it can still be pretty great to reread good books

    Harry Potter.
I closed the seventh volume and walked over to the window sill. I opened the window gently and let in a gust if fresh night air. The black canvas above me sported a few glittering stars. I pondered the fate of the human race as it was sinking in; the Harry Potter series was over. They were never going on any adventures again. There was no loop hole or comfort. Only harsh truth.

The one time I really remember feeling that was when I watched Buffy and Angel religiously. My (then) gf knew that was a time where if she had something to say, she had better time it during the commercials. Really wish it would have had a better ending, tho for what it was, it wasn't terrible. Funniest thing I remember is my 15 year old, about 5 then, every time she would see Spike, she would chime in "Thats MY boyfriend".

Just blind bought this on Google books from your recommendation. I've been devouring teen gay fiction books for the past month so I'm hoping this is really good too. Feel free to tell the author

Totally awesome! I couldn't believe it.

Just make sure you read them in order and you'll be fine
I wish I'd had them as a teenager.

I've just started reading another one of his books
Different characters but similar writing style, think I'm okay with that compromise while I'm waiting for the next instalments.

It one of the most depressing feelings in the world to me. In particular I am a major fan of the Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra series, which I followed for 10 years of my life as well as the Harry Potter series which I got into when I was 10 and read all the books and watched all the movies.

Once they were both over I felt completely lost but I have all the Harry Potter books, audio books and the movies. And I also have all three seasons of ATLA on DVD and all 4 seasons of ALoK as well so when I start to feel sad about it I can marathon them.

Reading fanfiction also helps as well it gives the allusion the the adventure is never over. I read a fair amount of ALok Fanfiction

Sometimes I feel like something is missing when I finish a good book, anime series, or video game. I re-read some books a few times. Maybe I didn't understand half of it the first time.

I usually end up consuming more media, in order to counter the empty feeling. Rinse and repeat.

Yes, I hate that feeling. I don't mind finishing a book when it's part of a series as long as there's another one to look forward to, but I hate when I reach the end of the line for characters I've grown attached to. I usually take a week or so and then try to find something else to read; it doesn't always work out, but more often than not it does.

Yeah... When I watched Gintama through the first time and after watching 'Gintama: The final Chapter: Be Yorozuya forever' I felt like I had lost a part if my soul... But it came back and I'm watching it again so it's fine.

With Evangelion, that feeling never happens / never stops happening.

    That's right, I said it!
