I'm really into (some) visual Kei bands and I've been looking for some more. I really like SuG but sadly, they changed labels and their stuff is a lot harder to find now. So I like the more alternative rock style as opposed to something like the Gazette which is a lot more scream-o. Any suggestions?

If you don't know what Visual Kei is, it's a Japanese genera of music that is rock + an extreme visual style

Alice Nine/A9 sounds about right for you. An Cafe could be good too.

Siam Shade is one of my all-time favorite bands. Their guitarist also played in a band called Binecks, which is like a modern version of Siam Shade.

Onmyouza is a great hard rock / power metal band.

Versailles is great, as someone recommended above.

X Japan are the grandfathers of the genre. Fantastic power metal band.

I would start with Onmyouza and Siam Shade. Try Izayoi No Ame from Onmyouza and Calling, or 1/3 no junjou na kanjou (which was their big hit) from Siam Shade.

I personally prefer Jupiter to Versailles it's all the same band members but with a singer that I actually like. Also bonus points for Hizaki being kawaii as hell. Zin and Teru are easy on the eyes too.

Versailles, Exist Trace, Alice 9, crap I can't remember any others. I know there are more that I listen too!

I'm terrible at discerning rock genres from each other. You said not like the GazettE (although you said screamo and I'm wondering if you mean their older stuff?), and you like SuG (who seem to be oshare-kei?).

So, I'd check out AN Cafe for sure, and maybe Kagerou and Gackt. If you want to venture a little harder, Nightmare or Pierrot are good, and Phantasmagoria (which is more like Versailles).
