Shows with a gay male lead?

    Hi everyone, I've been looking for a while shows in which the protagonist is a gay guy but that is not the main plot of the show. For example some of my favourite shows are 'Revenge' and 'Ugly Betty' but in both (and in many other shows) they are more of a side kick and I'm looking for a series or film where it shows that the gay person can be the something other than the "gay best friend". Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!!

    I don't know how gay this series is since I just started watching it.

    It's called "Looking" and I believe it is an old series.

    Static Shock is a show where there is a major gay character. Virgil Hawkins (Static) has a best friend named Richie Foley, who is gay. Unfortunately, due to it being a children's show and the time-frame that it aired (2000 - 2004, even though only 11 - 15 years ago, were more homophobic times), the director (him being Dwayne Mcduffie) was not allowed to have Richie express his sexuality.

    The acting in this is superb, especially Ben Whishaw. If it ever comes out on Blu Ray or DVD I'm so getting me a copy

    Torchwood. The main character is actually bi, but the actor is gay and smokin'--and has a really hot boyfriend on the show and a really hot husband IRL.

    In The Flesh has a protagonist who is basically described as pansexual by the writer or something, but is only portrayed as being with another guy.

    Every time I see on this thread I click on it thinking it's about musicals :/
    (P.S. in terms of musicals, RENT is pretty gay and 2 of the 7 main characters are gay. Just fyi)

    It's a mocumentary, but not the tacky kind, and it revolves around the adult children of this guy. One of his children, Mitchel, is gay and lives with his partner and their adopted daughter.

    I find the show really interesting and funny. :slight_smile:
