Nope, no one. *hastily covers up merchandise*

LOTR is mostly what got me interested in high fantasy. Before, I saw it as fairy tales. Afterwards, I saw the genre as serious business (with dragons) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yes, I'm a fan of the tolkien's universe, but not a BIIIIG fan. I've only read the hobbit, and I guess I'll give lord of the rings a try sometime. My favourite race are the dwarves! I'm really in to the conlangs Tolkien created for the universe like quenya, and sidarin and adûnaic. The guy was a Genius. I like the LOTR movies, but the hobbit ones sucked for me, they were pretty boring, to be honest. I'm more of a passive fan of this franchise than anything else, but I still love it very much so in the end if the day, nonetheless. So with that I say...

I read the books but I thought the LOTR movies were vastly better than the books (come at me bro!) However the Hobbit book was a pretty enjoyable one on its own, at least better than the bloated movie trilogy they made out of it.

Personally Fellowship of the Ring the movie has a special place in my heart, because I knew nothing about LOTR when I watched it and had no idea it was a trilogy. In fact I had no clue how long it would be and I thought it was "over" when they got to Rivendell since the hobbits had done what they set out to do. HOLY HELL was I hyped to find out that not only was the movie still not halfway done, but after it ended there were two more. Just one of those great film experiences I had growing up. It definitely had one of the best endings ever.

I once tried to watch LOTR and fell asleep because it was to boring for me. And all of my friends are keep saying to me that I'm an idiot and that the trilogy is a masterpiece of fantasy.

Some people can't stand it, you're not alone. They hate how long it is, and gripe about the "12 endings" of the last movie, which I enjoyed.

I read the Hobbit when I was 10 years old. I read LotR when I was 12. First tried reading the Silmarillion when I was 14, failed, and succeeded (quite happily) at 16. If I had ended up majoring in English Literature, rather than Mathematics, I would have ended up a "formal" Tolkien scholar.

I saw the 1980 version of LotR when it came out in theaters...was deeply disappointed. The TV version (~1978ish) of the Hobbit was even worse, though. I put all my emotional eggs into the basket of "maybe they'll do a live action version of the Hobbit and LotR some day", and I was smacked down: it is technologically infeasible to *ever* be able to do justice to those books in film...even aside from the impossible demands of special effects, you'd need at least 8 hours of screen time to have a chance!

Then along came Peter Jackson, who did it in 9...impossible special effects and all. If I hadn't been so discouraged by people in High School, I might have actually majored in English Lit. and Creative Writing, and ended up helping with the screenplay (and gotten rid of some of the more egregious issues with those scripts...psst...don't tell Peter Jackson yet, but I'm actually working on a screenplay for the Silmarillion right now).

The books are still far and away superior to the films...but I have tremendous respect for how people handled the writing, acting, directing, and special effects challenges that those films faced.

The movies were definitely more palatable than the books, and PJ's trilogy gave the world a breathtaking visual style.
