So I just watched Blue is the warmest colour the other day (I know, right, where have I been for the last 3 years!). I was just wondering what people thought of it. I have read it has got some criticism from the author of the graphic novel it is based on and also from the LGBT community for being a straight man's portrayal of a queer narrative and the lack of queer advisory on set. The extended sex scenes have also been criticised for being gratuitous and voyueristic as well as highly choreographed. I enjoyed the film though, I can relate to a lot of what Adele goes through, both when I was younger and also now. The sex scences do seem uneccesarily long (but tbh not that I'm complaining!), it also seems unrealistic as that was Adele's first time with a woman and she is only supposed to be 15. I think the themes of love and heart break and coming of age should be universal though rather than 'straight love' and 'queer love'. Anyway, I'm just throwing it out there - what are people's thoughts about the film and does it relate to your experience?
I'm sorry but to me the sex scenes are just funny to watch. I have never actually laughed during a sex scene until that movie. Especially watching two women. That was just crazy and obviously filmed by a man. The story line was good although very long. It also shows why you should never cheat on your partner or somebody else will end up married to your wife. Have you ever seen "If these walls could talk 2"? Now that has a pretty good sex scene.
Interesting to hear your take on it! I know what mean, you can tell the sex scences have been filmed by a man and it seems almost intended as porn (for men). I haven't seen 'if these walls could talk 2' but will be sure to check it out!
Yes it very much felt like porn... for a man. As far as "If these Walls Could Talk 2" that is still one of my all time favorite movies. Very well done. Let me know what you think of it.
I watched it a while ago...The acting was AMAZING, like soooo good, they deserved the awards they got, but I dunno if it's just because I have NEVER exposed myself to lesbian porn, but the sex scenes were just...too long? I dunno, like one of them was 8 minutes long or something and I actually skipped through it. It felt like the director was just trying to show me every single way two women can have sex as if I was too dumb to imagine it myself. Not to mention there were a few sex scenes in the film too... Overall I liked it though, and I don't think it's fair to call it a straight man's fantasy of lesbians because it wasn't "sexy" in that sense, it was a very emotionally charged film.
I love love loved it. I loved experiencing Adele's story and yep, the sex scenes felt like total porn - the sort of porn I wanna watch. I was a good mix of emotionally engaged and aroused throughout the first half. The second half just made me sad but that makes it a bit more interesting - your still sort of hurt and angry about what happened after and it leaves a lot of things up for debate. I love reading people theorise online.
I haven't seen Blue is the Warmest Color, but I just wanted to add another vote for "If These Walls Could Talk 2." That's gotta be the worst title ever, but it's actually the best lesbian movie I've seen so far.
