So, I've got an audition this Saturday for Curtains. I need a song to sing. So the problem is that I cannot sing at all. However, I figured I'd give this summer thing a chance because I really like the director and I'm sure she can find a place to stick me in. Anyway, anybody know of a song that I won't destroy? Doesn't matter if it's from a musical or Top 40 or anything... Thoughts right now: La Vie Boheme from Rent, because it's mostly acting, less singing... If that made sense.
Maybe a Chicago song? We both reached for the gun? Its alot of "talk singing" and cmon, Richard Geere or whatever his name is did it...honestly... Good luck though Lauren! (*hug*)
No idea. I've never actually sang for the sake of performance. I even avoid singing in the car/to the radio. Hah.
hey, ive always said when auditioning, never sing anything from rent, wicked, phantom.. those type of popular musicals... you could try a song, its called 'die vampire die' from the show [title of show] or anything from that musical in general... pm me if you want me to send it to you (i also have a lot of sheet music if you need something)
I'm not sure if you would prefer a girl's part or a guy's part, but here are some great ones that I have done in the past (And trust me, I suck at singing.). Some of them would require a bit of editing, but nothing too extreme. Like changing a 'me' to a 'you'. 1. Notice Me, Horton from Seussical the Musical 2. Dentist! from Little Shop of Horrors 3. You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two from Oliver! 4. The Stepsister's Lament from Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella 5. Honey Bun from South Pacific In any case, I would suggest going for a character heavy song so you can show off your acting as opposed to your singing.
Character pieces are always great. My first audition song was 'When You're Good To Mama' from 'Chicago!' I killed it. (As in a good way) 'Nothing' from 'A Chorus Line' is pretty easy to sing in my oppinion and it's relatively low. The RENThead is right. Don't sing anything from a popular well-known show. And avoid Stephen Sondheim altogether. I've heard that his pieces aren't allowed for auditioning in higher end theatre.
Honeybun from South Pacific is really simple to learn and VERY hard to destroy. DO NOT do a popular musical. Badness... Please, dear Lord, tell me that you have some sort of recording of that.
South Pacific is unpopular, because a lot of people who do shows don't really like it. Me, it was my first show I played in, so I love it. If you're doing it with an accompanist, give the music to Honey Bun to them before as it's in a horrible key to play in and pretty fast. *starts singing I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy*
I would just like to point out that "When You're Good To Mama" is NOT a character song! I would also like to point out that this is my themesong It's fun to do drag to. "Roses Turn" from Gypsy might be good. Enough acting and enough singing. Plus it's a powerful song so yeah. OR "When you've got it." From The Producers. That would be fun Break a leg honeybunch! Roll 'em in the aisles.
Thanks for all the input you guys... Thoughts about this song? (Ignore the video, and yeah it's definitely not from a musical, but I never said it had to be...)
JUST KIDDING. I re-evaluated. Thoughts on....
