I'm not much of a movie person but Rocky Horror was a huge comfort to me when I was questioning. Books-wise, I remember really connecting to Annie On My Mind. In fact I found it hard to reread because it hit so close. Recently I read Fun Home (heads up, it's a graphic novel) which I can imagine being helpful.
