I was curious if there were any K-Pop fans on EC? I am a huge fan! :icon_bigg I love BTS, Ailee, Taeyeon, Sistar, Shinee, and Infinite to name a few. My current obsession is Taeyeon's new song "11:11", BTS' "Blood Sweat and Tears", and Hyorin's Umbrella. ^^

I'll be honest with you, their two newest songs had to grow on me. I wasn't as hyped from the first listen as I was with Boombayah and Whistle, but it's still good, don't get me wrong! They are such a successful rookie group, but I guess that's a given coming from YG Entertainment lol.

I'm just waiting for my queen Hyorin to release her new MV for Paradise!:icon_bigg

It makes me so happy to see that guys are into this music, I haven't listened to much but was introduced to k-pop recently, it's really different to what I used to listen to - I've only really heard girls generation so far and also some YouTube remixes. Catch me if you can knocked me off my feet!

The problem I always have is there is this annoying voice in my head that tells me this music is too "girly" and that I shouldn't be listening to it, sometimes I ignore it, sometimes I become so conflicted.

I would love to chat to other like minded guys and discover more k-pop, - a while ago I saw a guy at the train station wearing a girls generation t-shirt, I was trying so hard not to stare!

I wished I could share you my whole K-Pop playlist on YouTube (over 400 songs, I'm obsessed lol) so you can discover more of the genres out there under K-pop! I used to listen to K-pop religiously, but now I listen to it more casually. You'd be surprised at the many genres that K-Pop has to offer, ranging from R&B (more of my style), rap, ballads, pop, hip hop, cutesy, etc. It is not all "cutesy/ girly" as you'd think, which isn't bad either, but it's not really my preferred K-pop to listen to.

Also, one of the things that I love about K-Pop is that they are very eccentric in their music videos and go all out with their choreography. It's has very high production value.

I highly suggest watching BTS' "Blood, Sweat, Tears" and also all of their previous music videos on YouTube! Their songs are always so catchy and the choreography is phenomenal.

I'll link a few different genre of songs below from my playlist that I like so you can check it out. If you want more suggestions, I have a whole slew of them, just ask!

    Hey Ryler!

Thanks, I kind of wish you could share that whole collection also!

I've listened to a bit of k-pop but not much, my background is more rock / hip hop and a tiny bit of R&B / soul (like the actual old kind) - for a long time I've wanted to explore new music, but either I don't have the time or I'm just not in the mood. I will get round to it though, because I'm so bored of what I listen to - maybe I will make time tomorrow to listen to all of the suggestions in this thread!

It's hard, but I keep trying to tell myself maybe change will do me some good!

It's always good to be open to new music, because you never know, you might end up loving it!

Since you said you like rock, I added some more K-Pop songs with rock influence to it for you to listen to, as well as some others cause I can't help myself lol.

Lol, no don't stop it's kind of fun haha.

So I'm going to try and listen to all of this stuff today, I have to ask the obvious question - so you think you can really enjoy this music if you don't understand the lyrics?

Most certainly! Music is one of those art forms that I think transcends any type of language barriers. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, you can still appreciate the musicality and the emotions/entertainment that the singers put into their songs to reach out to their listeners. I'm not Korean, so I don't understand many of the lyrics at all, but I still thoroughly enjoy it. Sometimes I find myself singing along (with my broken Korean) and humming to the beat even though I don't speak it lol.

Even classical music can sometimes evoke people to feel so much raw emotions and enjoyment with no lyrics at all, and that's what music is all about. K-Pop has a very large non-Korean speaking fan base believe it or not, and we all love it even though we don't understand the lyrics.

If there is a song that I really want to know the lyrics to so I can get a better understanding of what's happening in a music video, I look up a "lyric video" of that song on YouTube and see the lyrics there.

The last song that I linked by SongJieun "Don't Look At Me Like That", that's one of the songs that you have to look at the lyrics by clicking "CC" on the video to have a better understanding of the music video. Her lyrics/music video can be interpreted in many ways, but I related it to the struggles of LGBT people and what they have to go through.
