They're not covers. Katy recorded demos and didn't want them on her album. Kelly's versions are so much better IMO. Her voice is out of this world.

i love hook up by kelly.. i just listened to katy perrys version... i dont like it and the lyric 'keep your thing in your pants, your heart on your sleve' the line in kellys song is 'keep your hand in my hand, your heart on your sleve' which is way nicer...
I think that they are originals and not covers since Katy's were never mixed/mastered. Anyways, I obviously think that Kelly did those songs major 180's and saved them from the trainwrecks they used to be...well Long Shot at least. I don't think they are even the most popular they just get the most recognition since they were written by Katy Perry and at the moment Katy was blowing up somewhat.
