Have you ever been embarrassed to love a song, especially because you are gay?

I'm not sure how to explain this exactly, but there are two songs in particular that I have loved for a very long time because of how over-the-top and strange, but endlessly fun they are.

But now, after coming to terms with my bisexuality, I feel especially embarrassed about them. Not in a bad way, but more like, "I know... I'm bad XP... but I can't help it," sort of way. You know? Anyway, here are the two songs.

Don't feel embarrassed for having good taste in music haha.
I love 80s music like this, the first time I heard You spin me round was in the movie "The wedding Singer" and I was instantly in love, had to find out who it was.

GTA vice city also fueled my love of 80s music. Flock of Seagulls - I ran was so amazing when I first heard it.

Oh no, yeah. I love "I Ran" from Flock of Seagulls too. Love 80s music so so much.

It's just with these two songs, I always start laughing at myself a little for liking them as much as I do because of how indulgent they both seem. You know. Nothing wrong with that at all, just a quirky observation I thought I'd share. :icon_bigg

When I was a kid, I was ashamed of liking Spice Girls, but you know what? YO, I'LL TELL YOU WHAT I WANT, WHAT I REALLY, REALLY WANT! SO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT, WHAT YOU REALLY, REALLY WANT!"

I have to say that initially when I first heard the songs; Rupaul "Supermodel" and The Weather Girls "Its Raining Men" I really liked them because when I first heard those songs I was in a gay club. However, while hanging out with some straight female co-workers, we decided to stop at the music store that was located on the lower level of the building we worked at. While entering the store, these songs were playing back to back and these women started ranting off about how these songs are very big within the gay community and some started imitating how gay people would dance. At the time..it made me feel embarrassed. However, I eventually had gotten to the point of my life where I embraced these songs and many more whenever I heard them because I did not care anymore about what others may say or react when these songs came on.

Not so much embarrased, as life's too short and it's just music, but I've had my share of questionable choices in favorite songs, particularly prior to coming out.

That said, I am mildly embarrased to admit that I still know all the words to this little number:

    These are cool.
Not entirely my thing, but I like the Neo-80s sound they all have. Very retro and visually interesting with the music videos.

I used to listen to Yello all the freakin time in high school (on audio cassette .)

In fact I used to listen to tons of 80's music growing up. "Take on me" (a-ha), "I don't wanna lose your love tonight" (The Outfields), "Africa" (Toto). Oh and "Careless Whisper" (George Michael). I LOVE that song. Hands down best 80's song in my book. When I hear these particular songs I get a bit nostalgic.

I also love Savage Garden (90's). Won't deny it. Their self named CD is still awesome today. :icon_bigg

Music is never something to be ashamed about. Unless you are just a dirty minded person or want everyone to die.

    Let the good times roll...

I remember Savage Garden. Haven't listened to them in a while. Very nostalgic, remember hearing them on the radio growing up.

When I was in my early teens, t.A.T.u were huge and I freakin' loved them! But at the time, I felt I had to hide it as I hadn't told a single soul that I was gay at that point. I was so embarrassed when people picked up on how much I listened to them, it was awful! I haven't listened to them in years now. Looking back on it, how they played gay for pay was so wrong, but their music really helped me realise the truth about my sexuality!

t.A.T.U were popular at my school. I had friends who listened to them (they were straight...and I realized the music in a different way, because I was not. :icon_wink) The school even played "All the Things She Said" at one of the school dances!
