As the title says I'm writng a book set in London, and being an American and a lot of users on EC are British, I was wondering if I could have a few questions answered.

    1. Is London a gay-friendly city?
    2. What is some British slang commonly used?
    3. What are the different dialects in London,

    1. As someone who doesn't live in London, I'm not quite sure what the atmosphere is there for gay people. However, as it is an incredibly large city (at least to us Brits ) I'd imagine that there would be some parts friendly, and some less so. I know where I live is not half as big as London, but the different ghettos have different reactions to gay people.

    2. Ooooh mah lawd, just too many to list. Here's a good list I found on t'internet. Don't use phrases that it says are used soley in the North (as London is Southerly), but I've found it to be a really informative list. There's been even some that I don't know about!

    3. Again there are just too many, I think read somewhere that it was up to 280 different dialects down there, so yeah

Hi , do you have a rough plot/storyline.As London is a multiculural city different areas have developed different racial identities . the east end (tower hamlets ) close to the city is mainly Bangladeshi , as this area historically is the poorest area and where imagrants have settled for centuries , before gaining wealth and moving out to other areas. For example first there were french Hugenouts (silk weavers ) then the next large change was a Jewish community ,then in the 1970's an Asian mainly from bangaldesh settled there ,now there is an influx from eastern european nations but the area is dominated by Asian people there is a large mosque in the whitechapel road.
heading east past what was the old docks you have more indian communities sikhs /hindus west Indian carribean communities , then Irish communities then in the more suburbs the old cockney communities that moved east . if you know where you want to set your story look up the area on line . Main Gay scene is soho based old Compton street but there are gay pubs/ clubs across london . http://www.gaylondon.co.uk/ http://www.timeout.com/london/ I'm born and bred in east london but for a east london accent (Stratford Area E15) idea you could do worse than watch Eastenders http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/ the stories are all doom and gloom we are not like that honest:grin: any way wall me or pm if you have more questions
