I got into anime around Christmas. I have watched Ultimate Hellsing and Death Note. I loved them both, however I'm not sure what to watch next.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Most of what I love is from the 90s, and is harder-ish to come by online or streaming somewhere.

If those two are the shows you've seen so far, though, then I would highly suggest Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Soul Eater, and Kill La Kill next.

For me, my favorite anime of all time are The Slayers, FLCL, Genshiken, a vast amount of Lupin the 3rd, Ninja Nonsense, and Panty & Stocking. I also have some short series like Disgaea, Princess Jellyfish, and Bludgeoning Angel: Dokoro-Chan that were all fun and wonderful.

If you loved Death Note then you'll love Code Geass. Best part about Code Geass is that they're working on a third season! Those two easily make it to my top 10 favorite series.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but be warned, nothing will measure up to it afterwards.

My second favorite show was the 2011 Hunter x Hunter.

I'll fourth or fifth Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Soul Eater and Lupin The 3rd are both great.

I can't decide which one I like best, Elfen Lied or Mirai Nikki, but they're both super amazing. Mirai Nikki got to me especially as I was a wreck for days after watching it.

I second Psycho-Pass, since you enjoyed Ultimate Hellsing and Death Note. If you like dark and sometimes wacky humor Black Butler can be amusing. Also Monster is very good. I always recommend it to people who like psychological/suspense type anime.

91 Days is another good one.

So, there's tons I have on my list to watch, but the ones I've watched so far that I really liked were:

    Death Parade (gore, pretty short)
Wandering son (about kids in middle school dealing with sexuality and gender identity)
Attack on Titan (gore, taking forever to come out with a second season :lol:slight_smile:
FMAB (really good but really long, definitely one of my favourites though)
Another (really short, gory, honestly pretty confusing at some points but I liked it)
    Black Butler
Corpse Party (gore if you hadn't guessed by now, short)
and finally... Himoto Umaru-Chan. This anime is adorable and that's honestly it. It's short, and about a teen girl who is perfect in public but the second she gets home becomes an annoying little sister who's lazy af. I watched it mainly because it seemed relatable. It's good if you wanna just pass some time.

I'm quite a fan of horror if you hadn't guessed, but that's all I can think of. I watched the first season of Tokyo Ghoul, but I really just didn't enjoy it and it felt like the same plot was repeating through every episode.

Quick note: I would not recommend Fullmetal Alchemist, only Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. FMA has worse art quality, and they finished the anime before the manga so the ending is weird and incorrect. FMAB is much better imo.

I figured you liked gore when you said you liked Hellsing Ultimate. (It's on my top five.) That's why I suggested Elfen Lied and Mirai Nikki--they're both more of psychological dramas/thrillers, but they don't shy away from gore.

Another anime I like to recommend simply for the outstanding sound and animation is Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. I've watched my fair share of anime in my days, but nothing comes even close to challenging this series when it comes to both sound image and animation.

I'll include a sample here. Just keep in mind that since it's on youtube, both the sound and image is compressed and not as good as it actually is, but it's still very apparent how good it is. Oh, and use headphones if you've got good ones.

I don't really like anime, except this one my friend practically begged me to watch: Sword Art Online or SAO. It's about a MMORPG that is also a VR game. You can't log out, trapping you in until the game is cleared. Dying in-game means death in the real world. It's a lot better than it sounds

If you're into stuff that's really existential, try Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost in the Shell
