So, I have a weekend to write a film review for a University interview. I don't want to do a young kids film, but I don't want to do anything too depressing/explicit either. Ideally, I want something aimed at teenagers (like a comedy or drama, possibly thriller), that isn't too obvious or too obscure either. I don't mind if it's not an English film, so long as it has subtitles that's fine. I'm doomed, aren't I? If anyone has any film suggestions, please post them here- thank you.
I'm currently not at University, this interview is to see if I can get a place at a particular University for my first year once I leave College. I'm out at College, but not with my family- although I plan to come out to them as I know they'll be accepting, so generally I don't mind if a film has LGBT themes in it or not for this review.
Just watched the trailer, looks like it could be interesting. I'm also considering perhaps doing about "The perks of being a wallflower", "legally blonde" or "Almost Adults" but I'm not sure. :eusa_thin
I've heard of the title "Bring it on" but I've never seen it, and yes legally blonde is definitely a classic. I have to wonder if "The no kiss list" is any good, I've been meaning to watch that. Ugh, so many options!
If you're thinking of a LGBT themed movie, I recommend "Get Real". It's a coming of age drama with some comedy elements to it. I really enjoyed it as it shows that you have to look realistically at life, and that it's not just rainbows and unicorns etc. "Legally Blonde" would also be good, I liked how it shows that you can be both cool and professional at the same time. Go for it
The first bring it on is awesome. I didn't want to watch it as I don't really like chick flicks or comedy. Afterwards I wanted to be a cheerleader (for about a week)
I've considered watching "Get real" before because it been hanging around in my Netflix recommendations, but I haven't seen it yet. Yeah same, I love Legally Blonde. ---------- Post added 29th Apr 2017 at 09:38 PM ----------
If you're looking for an LGBT movie, I suggest Pride (2014). It's a historical comedy-drama about a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners' strike in 1984. They teamed up with a conservative Welsh mining town and in turn they joined the Gay Pride march the next year and helped put gay rights on the Labour Party's agenda. The movie romanticises the event a bit, but it's a true story ---------- Post added 1st May 2017 at 05:28 PM ---------- Alternatively, Goodbye Lenin! is a simply amazing film.
Ah, I loved the film Pride! :eusa_danc Never heard of Goodbye Lenin, I'll have to look that one up. ---------- Post added 1st May 2017 at 11:01 PM ---------- Not heard of "Safety not Guaranteed" before, as for "The perks of being a wallflower" I just came back to this thread to say that I have finished writing my review now (I did it on the perks of being a wallflower) and I no longer need anymore suggestions. You're welcome to still post here though, finding out about new films is usually interesting, it's just any films you suggest now won't be used since I've already written my review. I just hope my interview goes well.
Update: So, I had my interview today. They loved my work and my film review, they found it to be well written and an interesting read. Unfortunately, there are not enough students to run this particular course that I applied for so sadly they can not accept me unless a surge of applications occurs before the deadline, and as the deadline quick approaches this possibility is becoming more and more unlikely. :icon_sad: They wished me the best with my applications, and told me that I certainly have a place in the future of media. Thankfully, at least I have one offer from elsewhere.
Hi, sorry to hear that you weren't accepted. (*hug*) Congratulations for your great attempt, I'm glad that the interviewing body found your work to be good. Good luck in your other offer. Take care.
Thanks. Shame how these things work out. They said that if they somehow manage to get a load of students before the deadline they'll definitely give me a place though. But since that's fairly unlikely at this point, I'm just going to focus on the offer I have.
The Breakfast Club is a classic choice too. I'm pretty bad when it comes to teen or coming of age movies, more so ones that aren't bleak or super explicit.
