i think classic rock is such a cliche type thing, its fake-ness annoys me slightly. i do still like bits of it though. i much prefer alternative rock, R.E.M., Placebo, Foo Fighters. then some metal type stuff - Korn, Killswitch Engage etc. plus punk (both old school and new).

I swear most broad genres are way to broad and there's no fine line between each one at ALL. 'Indie' merges with Pop and Rock. Rock is reasonably defined but can go into Metal or Punk. Pop + Anything = Pop imo so it will always be a bit difficult to classify. ETC.
But anyway browsing through the top end of my last.fm there's Bloc Party, Johnny Foreigner, Sigur Rós, The Horrors, Dananananaykroyd, Animal Collective, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Friendly Fires, Enter Shikari, The Phantom Band, Nightwish, Mew, HEALTH, Weezer, Cage The Elephant, Deerhunter, Streetlight Manifesto, The Cure, OneRepublic, Franz Ferdinand would be some of my favourites, not sure how many would go into "Indie" (i hate that word :/) but i should give explore hard rock and pre 2000 music in general a bit MORE.

I think what makes amazing rock music is the guitarist and how he makes the crowd go wild!!

This thread makes me cry. There are NO good rock bands nowadays. Rock is dead imo.

Rock is not dead :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Although a lot of the bands listed earlier I wouldn't consider rock. many "pop-rock" or other subgenres (that I really don't see the need for subgenres anyway). Rock is definitely not dead though, the bands that are purportedly the frontmen for Contemporary Rock aren't good representatives, usually. If Rock died though, then it definitely did at the end of the 90s/early 2000s, when rap really made it into the mainstream. (although 90s rap was definitely the best, maybe 80s too :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)
