My boyfriend and I are going to have a tragic gay movie marathon and we are trying to decide which movies we want to watch. So far our list includes

    • Latter Days
    • Brokeback Mountain
    • Get Real

Anyone know of any other really good tragic gay movies? I know they are out there!

    thanks :icon_wink

I thought Brokeback was boring... I didn't watch much of it though.

Umm... Borats got some good gay scenes in there. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    Very nice, how much?

Brokeback was okay. My ending got cut off, kinda pissed me off lol... But whatever, I saw everything but the very very end. I thought it was well made, and well done. But I'm more of a... geek, lol. Anyway, I've never seen any gay-themed movies except for Brokeback. So... Have fun, though.

I personally liked Brokeback Mountain, but wouldnt go as far as to say it deserved all the awards it got...It was pretty good acting, but i actually thought Jake Gylanhall (sorry if the sp. isnt right) did a better acting job than Heath Ledger, even tho it was Heath that got nominated for all the awards...Sorry, dont know any more tragic gay movies.....actually there is one movie called CAMP, its a musical and i enjoyed it. Its about a gay guy and this other guy and a girl and the guy falls in love with the girl, but then he cheats on her...several times, then tries to get it on with the gay guy and then shes still in love with him at the end of the movie. And then it finishes off wit this big music number with the gay guy singing lead vocals.

Yeah, I agree. Well, I think Heath did great job, but so did Jake...It will make sense to me if both of them got the awards but only Heath? God damn Hollywood favors leading character in the movie, not the acting:bang: :bang:

I thought summer storm was good:slight_smile:

"Beautiful Thing" is a great film, but I wouldn't really describe it as "tragic".

    But that's SO not true.

The Incredibly True Story of Two Girls In Love
    D.E.B.S.
    When Night Is Falling

I'm sure there are more but that's for starters!

Yeah... I thought exactly the same thing. Heath was fine and all but really how hard is it to act that stoic? I thought Jake did at least an equally good job.

I thought the same thing about the two actors playing their wives/female love interests. Michelle Williams was awesome and deserved (finally) every bit of praise she got but actually Anne Hathaway did a STUNNING job (especially given the depth of the movies she's usually in) and she had a lot less screen time than MW and still managed to pull off an amazingly powerful performance.

Of those three, only Brokeback is what I would call "tragic." In fact if I remember Get Real correctly, it's about as inspiring/uplifting (or nearly) as Latter Days, which I thought ultimately was a pretty positive movie.

    You want tragic?

    Hanging Garden (surreal and harrowing)
    Jeffrey (okay, bittersweet)
It's My Party (I think I cried through about 75% of the movie, which is actually highly unusual for me)

(gods I have to keep a master list of all the gay movies I've seen)

    There we go:

Sugar (harrowing and gritty... and even more harrowing, and then harrowing some more)

And then there's this awful British one where the main character gets beaten nearly to death by his best friend/love interest with a pipe... happily I've forgotten its name because it's shite.

Relax... It's Just Sex has pretty harrowing bits to it. Excellent film.

    Hope that helps!

Would any consider the gay soap opera, Dante's Cove, to necessarily be tragic?

I think it's tragic in a totally different way from what we've been talking about. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

First gay movie I saw was 'My beautiful Laundrette' That has a great soft core sex scene when the characters first get it on. beautiful but tragic later.

'short bus' is a real in your face movie, more of a tragedy.
'mambo italiano' is more upbeat and commercial.
