Well my lovelys a place to post your favourite poems, or ones you or someone you know have written.
But one thing about length: the ancient mariner is technically one poem but fills a book so if you could pick out a verse or two as favourite that would be better in such circumstances!

    I'll start!

    In the theatre

'Only a local anaesthetic was given because of the blood pressure problem.
The patient, thus, was fully awake throughout the operation. But in those
days - in 1938, in Cardiff, when I was Lambert Rogers' dresser - they could
not locate a brain tumour with precision. Too much normal brain tissue was
destroyed as the surgeon crudely searched for it, before he felt the
resistance of it...all somewhat hit and miss. One operation I shall never
    forget...'

Sister saying - 'Soon you'll be back in the ward,'
sister thinking - 'Only two more on the list,'
    the patient saying - 'Thank you, I feel fine';
small voices, small lies, nothing untoward,
though, soon, he would blink again and again
because of the fingers of Lambert Rogers,
rash as a blind man's, inside his soft brain.

If items of horror can make a man laugh
then laugh at this: one hour later, the growth
    still undiscovered, ticking its own wild time;
    more brain mashed because of the probe's braille path;
    Lambert Rogers desperate, fingering still;
his dresser thinking, 'Christ! Two more on the list,
a cisternal puncture and a neural cyst.'

Then, suddenly, the cracked record in the brain,
a ventriloquist voice that cried, 'You sod,
leave my soul alone, leave my soul alone,' -
the patient's dummy lips moving to that refrain,
the patient's eyes too wide. And, shocked,
Lambert Rogers drawing out the probe
    with nurses, students, sister, petrified.

'Leave my soul alone, leave my soul alone,'
that voice so arctic and that cry so odd
had nowhere else to go - till the antique
gramaphone wound down and the words began
to cease at last when something other died.
And silence matched the silence under snow.

Wow I love this thread  ... BUT... I have something to say .. this is out-topic but anyways...

In secondary 3 (which is grade 9 I think ?), we had a poem to do in English class... I'm french, so English is the "second language" we learn at school. The poem was about WINTER... << Yah it sucks...

But what I remember is that I wrote (as beginning): "I sniff the winter's air" ............. XD
I wanted to write "I smell..." but anyways, that's my story XD. Pardon me, I'm french lol.

    >> I'm going.

Here's something I wrote a while ago. Nothing great.

You can find me dropping life
    Down the well of reality
I can find me going in circles
    Something is trapping me

You are doing fine, very well
    In this illusion seeming real
My perception of you so dear
Lips so loud yet so sealed

Talking to you like a river flow
Screaming inside a cave so dark
    Meeting souls with another sew
Hearing the ghost of love's bark

    Here's one that I wrote...

The Dark Woods seemed to beckon me.
    The huge, thick trees
    Whispered ancient secrets.
    Secrets of forbidden love,
    Secrets of forgotten times,
    And minds
Which have long left our shores.
    Secrets
    Waiting to be explored.
Should I plunge in and find
    What I find?
    Perhaps.
    But delicately so.
    For delve too deep
    And return never more.

As if in response to my tentative mind,
A cloud passed in front of the moon
And the Woods grew darker still.
I knew I must take leave
Before no leave was left to take
    And no light was left
    To find my way back.

    Though one day soon,
    Or far away
    I know I must return,
And become a secret of these Woods
    And whisper with the trees.
    Forgotten with the rest,
I will live on in this dark world
And whisper to yet another daring traveller
Who has yet to take this road.

This was to one of my friends, an inspiring actor.

You can tour the world with artist lust, and recreate it on a stage
Or see it once, within your mind, and write it on the page
What a wonder is your art, through which your dreams do flow
Ride the ribbon in your script and open up the show
Curtains open, the choir sings, and lights begin to glow

Encore, encore, but before us please don’t bow.
Act forever in our hearts, and let us love you, as we do now.

yessss a poetry thread
    here's a short one I wrote awhile ago;

i bet you never thought you could be so special
makes no sense to me but ive lost emotion for arguing
    so keep your twisted view, but take a look through mine;
look at the face, baby fat from heaven
pallid and lovely, smooth as a glacier
the smallest waves, of cornsilk threads
growing smiling patterns of shapes along your head
and makes me wonder what i thought was attractive instead.
makes me happy just to see you
and find out how you tick
everything about you's endearing i find, an excess of exclamation points
an extra easy way to come out that i wouldnt mind
but you and me being strangers? thats something im not feeling
imma turn it around, ill try my hardest
and maybe youre not as scary as i imagine.

Just one of the many poems i have written haha
    :]

    What is life without you?
It is not life at all
Ever since you left, life has no meaning
The trees have no longer looked the same
The sun is no longer bright and warming
The moon is no longer mysterious to me
The water does not hold the comfort it once did
I can no longer feel the cold freshness of the wind
Even the breaths I take are hollow and bleak
The only thing darkness hold for me is an invitation to death
Nothing is special nor the same without you here by my side
You had my heart and soul and simply discarded it as if I were nothing to you
    Leaving a lifeless shell behind
But to me you were special
    You were my everything

    Are you gay?
    Or are you straight?
    We must know now.
    We just can't wait.
    We think you are,
    but we're not sure.
    The answers
    are so obscure.
    We pass your mate
    in the hall.
    She passes us
    and says "bonjour!"
    We asked her if
    the rumers are true.
    "Do you love her?"
    She said "I do."
    We shook her hand,
    said "it's okay."
    No one minds
    that you are gay.

Revelation within a dream like euphoria,
A beautiful boyfriend for my new aura.
    Collectivised love between us two,
Hell to this love fades away the feelings blue.
Exhilarating: you fill me with emotion,
Love for life suddenly overtakes any depression potion.
    Infatuation from my side,
Level the emotion with mine and let love collide.
    Original love from ages past,
    Veteran of emotion cast
    Even now there is uncertainty,
Yet I love you in all my halls of plenty.
Open my box release those two love white doves,
Unimaginable riches I gain from our loves.

    One step too far

Just took one too many steps,
Towards the cliff and over the edge,
Run and jump and scream too loud,
See how much life is in the cloud,
Float for moments you will never forget,
Drop faster and faster in imploding descent,
    Falling down to deep water,
    Falling like lamb to slaughter,
Diving down to a new sun rising,
    Swimming through radiation ionizing,
Where to go with limited distance,
Over there to the wreck of musical dissonance,
    Walking on the sea floor,
Through outer hull and through ships door,
    Porthole and skeleton sailors,
    Older clothes older tailor,
    Lots of bubbles Shakespeare here,
Back to school our memories sear,
One last look at your best friend,
See their face now start to bend
One last goodbye for the “ex” who left you,
Say goodbye to her and goodbye to you
    Barrier crossed,
    Consciousness lost,
    Goodbye world,
    In death in furled.

    keep going you budding writers!
more from me to keep it in the loop shall I:

    My dream of him

There was something in the rain that night,
A fearful dark, a dead bird in flight.
    Cuddling in a dark hole,
Cuddling with all heart, all soul.
    But how lonely we feel,
How tight is this loveless seal?
Goodbye lover, this dream of mine,
    Goodbye lover until next time
Under cover of night we creep,
    While all else around asleep.
By star light and moon shine,
We find each other and entwine.
Oh how I love these nights we spend,
Never forget you are my best friend.
    And the hourglass runs low,
Our time near gone and so,
Goodbye lover, this dream of mine,
    Goodbye lover until next time.

I like the way your hair curls
and I like the way your sideburns sit, carelessly
overflowing on your brand of beautiful, face
like an angel in a 21st century household
Irish ancestry with a divine line through
    just to make me jealous
just to make me want you more
so come on, lay down next to me
we're only on a cliff, it's not so dangerous
a little broken glass never killed no one
like the way your moves move through me
arm around my shoulder, shoulder holding shirt
I like it better with a little skin
kiss me on the neck with your bare-skinned lips
look me in the eyes like you can't believe this
hold my hand so I sober up,
    this is socially unacceptable
too bad, I don't have to live for anyone but me
but I wanna live for us three
one, for one, I can hold if I want to
and one, last one, we do it differently up north
than they do it down in your town
we're only cities away if you wanna think of it like that.
so here, I am, I sweated it all out
    to J, to P, I adore you,
I want to lay so sweetly innocent in the sheets atop your bed
if only to say good night and leave in the morning
and I know, we're only, if even, friends
but I, think fondly of you from time to time
so I'll see this to its end.

this is a little Triolet of mine. I fell in love with the form after reading some of Wendy Cope's poems.

    In stupor lost, bewildered by
The liquid chocolate of his eyes,
Awake and listless, here i lie.
    In stupor lost, bewildered by
The way one looks enough and i
Am plunging 'chuteless through the skies.
    In stupor lost, bewildered by
The liquid chocolate of his eyes.

Welll ... In compliance with my username and to express my current state
    I will write a poem:

Oh! woman, will you not tell?

Oh! woman, will you not tell?
    Oh! woman, speak.
    Because of you I fell
    Into this state of weak.

Oh! woman will you not tell?
If I can love you as a wife?
    So I needn`t tunnel
    Through this endless strife.

Oh! woman, will you not tell?
The answers to my own questions,
So I needn`t embark upon this hell
    Of discovery and revelations.

Oh! woman, will you not tell?
    Tell me of what gender shall my love be;
One of you? Or one who is male?
So I can end struggles inside me.

Oh! woman, will you not tell?
So I can end struggles inside me.

A somewhat confusing poem wondering if there`s an easier way (of course there isn`t) of finding out my identity by a somewhat confused teen XD
