so what are your favorite or most confusing song lyrics you've ever heard? for favorites i'd have to go with Daniel by Bat For Lashes:

    "And when the fires came
The smell of cinders and rain
    Perfumed almost everything
We laughed and laughed and laughed
    And in the golden blue
Crying took me to the darkest place
And you have set fire to my heart"

and for the deepest i'd say lullaby by The Cure:

"And there is nothing I can do when I realise with fright that the Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight[...] And softer than shadow and quicker than flies, his arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes
"Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy, don't struggle like that or I will only love you more
For it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The Spiderman (The Spiderman) is having you for dinner tonight"

    but now i'm hung over
    I loved you forever
    but now i'm sober"

Deepest lyrics: Lady GaGa / Fashion

    "I need some new stilettos
Can't walk, down the street in those
You are, who you wear, it's true
A girl's just as hot as the shoes she choose
    Oh yeah"

GOD I love Bat for Lashes.

One of my absolute favorite songs is "American Dreaming" by Dead Can Dance. The lyrics are a bit hard to actually hear, and there's no official source. But I love what I can understand anyway, haha!

I need my conscience to keep watch over me
    To protect me from myself
So I can wear honesty like a crown on my head
When I walk into the promised land

We've been too long American dreaming
And I think we've all lost the way
Forlorn, somnambulistic, maniacal in the dark

I'm in love with an American girl
    Though she's my best friend
    I love her surreptitious smile
That hides the pain within her

And we'll go dancing in the rings of laughter
And live along by the shores
Feel alone in the brands of rapture
And leave alone for the loss

Yeah-ee, on the lea the rising wind blows
Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows
    How long how long?

Here alone on the grounds of allegiances we've left behind
Turned back by the foot of the doorway
    Never lost and found

We've been too long American dreaming
I think we've all lost the heart
Forlorn, somnambulistic, maniacal in the dark

Yeah-ee, on the lea the rising wind blows
Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows
    How long how long?

It is beautimus. And this is seriously the best version I can find on Youtube. >:/ My guess is DRM won't let anyone put a rip of the actual album version of the song.

Hmmm well I don't know if these are "deep", but I love these lyrics. I have tonssss of of favorite lyrics but I'll keep it to this for the sake of all you guys

    Say It- Blue October
    It's all about steam,
    It's all about dreams,
It's all about making the best out of everything
You'll know when you're fine, cuz you'll talk like a mime
You fall on your face, you get back up and you're doing fine
I considerate clown, a pretchy pretchy maciene, is one of the sweetst things you would say about me
But I don't have the time for your distorted esteem, why are you toying with my mind?

    Picking Up Pieces- Blue October
Sometimes I feel like weeping, awaking when I'm sleeping,
Perfecting how to put a gameface on
And this puzzle I've been keeping has been hiding creeping out the closet door,
    Spilling out onto the floor
How long, will I be picking up pieces
How long, will I be picking up my heart

    Iris- The Goo Goo Dolls
And I don't want the world to see me
    Cuz I don't think that they'd understand
When everythings made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

    Um.... Tool. Duh.

I'll post more later, so I don't hog the thread xD

    H. by Tool

    What's coming through is alive.
What's holding up is a mirror.
But what's singing songs is a snake
Looking to turn my piss to wine.

They're both totally void of hate,
But killing me just the same.

    The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been.
My blood before me begs me
    Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.
    Considerately.

    Venomous voice, tempts me,
    Drains me, bleeds me,
    Leaves me cracked and empty.
Drags me down like some sweet gravity.

    The snake behind me hisses
What my damage could have been.
My blood before me begs me
    Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again now.
And I feel this coming over like a storm again now.

I am too connected to you
    To slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you
    Touching me, changing me,

    Considerately killing me.
    Considerately killing me.
    Considerately killing me.
    Considerately killing me.
    Without the skin here,
    Beneath the storm.
    Under these tears now,
    The walls came down.

And as the snake is drowned
And as I look in his eyes,
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of those times.

    I could have cried then.
    I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down
And as I look in your eyes
    My fear begins to fade
    Recalling all of the times
    I have died
    and will die.
    It's all right.
    (I don't mind)
    I don't mind.
    I don't mind.
    I don't mind.

I am too connected to you
    To slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you
    Touching me, changing me,

    Considerately killing me.
    Considerately killing me and
    Considerately killing me.

this has been stuck in my head for over a week. older song..

    Chain- the Fire Theft /(SDRE)

    Chain
I feel the words falling in a rhythm
I see the wind bearing its decision to never give in
    I’m amazed
I hear the words form some kind of silence
When the world falls into violence
    We’ll never give in

    Chain
I see the world falling in a rhythm
I feel the wind bearing its decision to never give in
    I’m afraid
I hear the words form some kind of silence
When the world falls into violence
    They’ll never give in

    Chained in silence
    The rhythm of violence
    Change all around us
    Change in everything you see

    I’m amazed
I see the world in revolution
    Within the darkness a solution
    We’ll never give in

    Chained in silence
    The rhythm of violence
    Change all around us
    Change in everything you see

Lullaby's lyrics are so creepy! Yet the song is quite lively for The Cure standards

    My two cents:

    River Man (by Nick Drake)

Betty came by on her way
Said she had a word to say
    About things today
    And fallen leaves

Said she hadn’t heard the news
Hadn’t had the time to choose
    A way to lose
    But she believes

    Gonna see the river man
Gonna tell him all I can
    About the plan
    For lilac time

If he tells me all he knows
About the way his river flows
    And all night shows
    In summertime

    Betty said she prayed today
For the sky to blow away
    Or maybe stay
    She wasn’t sure

For when she thought of summer rain
    Calling for her mind again
    She lost the pain
    And stayed for more

    Gonna see the river man
Gonna tell him all I can
    About the ban
    On feeling free

If he tells me all he knows
About the way his river flows
    I don’t suppose
    It’s meant for me

Oh, how they come and go
Oh, how they come and go...

PREPARE FOR LONG WALL OF TEXT ^_^

Moreee, These are really meaningful to me for some reason. 10,000 Days pt 1 and 2. by Tool, obviously. It's about Maynard's mother dying of Cancer, and its really sad :frowning2:.

    Wings for Marie
    Pt1

    You...
    You believed ...
You believed in movements none could see.
    You believed in me

    A passionate spirit
    Uncompromised
    Boundless and open
    A light in your eyes
    Then immobilized.

    Broken
Fell at the hands of those movements that I wouldn't see
Yet it was you who prayed for me.
    So what have I done
To be a son to an angel?
    What have I done
    To be worthy?

    Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this selfish question, but
What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight?
    "She never told a lie,
... well might have told a lie,
    But never lived one.
    Didn't have a life,
    Didn't have a life,
    But surely saved one."
    See? I'm alright
Now it's time for us to let you go.

(This woman, my favourite person on Youtube, makes a really amazing cover of Part 1 of this song. It brings a whole new meaning to it, because she also lost someone close to cancer, and she relates a lot to the song. Her voice and talent is so beautiful and amazing. The part starting at "Daylight Dims" is especially sad, and I've teared up before while listening to it. So Enjoy)

    10,000 Days
    Pt 2

Listen to the tales and romanticize,
How we'd follow the path of the hero.
Boast about the day when the rivers overrun.
How we rise to the height of our halo.

Listen to the tales as we all rationalize
Our way into the arms of the savior,
    Feigning all the trials and the tribulations;
None of us have actually been there.
    Not like you.

    Ignorant siblings in the congregation
    Gather around spewing sympathy,
    Spare me.
None of them can even hold a candle up to you.
Blinded by choice, these hypocrites won't see.

But, enough about the collective Judas.
Who could deny you were the one who
Illuminated your little piece of the divine?

    And this little light of mine, a gift you passed on to me;
I'm gonna let it shine to guide you safely on your way,
    Your way home ...

Oh, what are they going to do when the lights go down
Without you to guide them all to Zion?
What are they going to do when the rivers overrun
    Other than tremble incessantly?

High is the way, but all eyes are upon the ground.
You were the light and the way they'll only read about.
I only pray, Heaven knows when to lift you out.
    Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough;
    You're going home.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,
Shake your fists at the gates saying:
    "I've come home now!
Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.
Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.
    It's time now!
    My time now!
Give me my, give me my wings!"

You are the light and way that they will only read about.

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance,
(With the) burden of proof tossed upon the believers.
You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence,
    Judith Marie, unconditional one.

    Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion, but
Should you see your Maker's face tonight,
Look Him in the eye, look Him in the eye, and tell Him:
"I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one.
Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home."

    paint the lines, on
    perfect eyes that,
    circle the object of,
    my sincere affection;
    my undivided attention

It looks kinda lame just written, but the way he actually sings it? Beautiful.

By the Almighty God, Nick Cave "Do you love me (part 1)" from the album «Let Love In»

I found her on a night of fire and noise
Wild bells rang in a wild sky
I knew from that moment on
I'll love her till the day that I died
And I kissed away a thousand tears
My lady of the Various Sorrows
Some begged, some borowed, some stolen
    Some kept safe for tomorrow
On and endless night, silver star spangled
The bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

She was given to me to put things right
And I stacked all my accomplishments beside her
Still I seemed so obsolete and small
I found God and all His devils inside her
In my bed she cast the blizzard out
A mock sun blazed upon her head
So completely filled with light she was
Her shadow fanged and hairy and mad
    Our love-lines grew hopelessly tangled
And the bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

She had a heartful of love and devotion
She had a mindful of tyranny and terror
Well, I try, I do, I really try
But I just err, baby, I do, I error
So come find me, my darling one
I'm down to the grounds, the very dregs
Ah, here she comes, blocking the sun
Blood running down the inside of her legs
The moon in the sky is battered and mangled
bAnd the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

All things move toward their end
I knew before I met her that I would lose her
I swear I made every effort to be good to her
I made every effort not to abuse her
Crazy bracelets on her wrists and her ankles
And the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

It's deep in a pretentious "the words make sense, but what she's saying doesn't" way. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: But it is nonetheless a good song.

From the top of the flight
    Of the wide, white stairs
Through the rest of my life
Do you wait for me there?

There's a bell in my ears
    There's a wide white roar
Drop a bell down the stairs
    Hear it fall forevermore

Drop a bell off of the dock
Blot it out in the sea
    Drowning mute as a rock;
    Sounding mutiny

There's a light in the wings
    Hits this system of strings
    From the side while they swing;
See the wires, the wires, the wires

    And the articulation
    In our elbows and knees
Makes us buckle as we couple in endless increase
    As the audience admires

    And the little white dove
Made with love, made with love:
Made with glue, and a glove, and some pliers

    Swings a low sickle arc
From its perch in the dark
    Settle down
    Settle down my desire

And the moment I slept I was swept up in a terrible tremor
Though no longer bereft, how I shook and I couldn't remember

Then the furthermost shake drove a murthering stake in
And cleft me right down through my center
And I shouldn't say so, but I know that it was then, or never

Push me back into a tree
    Bind my buttons with salt
Fill my long ears with bees
    Praying: please, please, please,
    Love, you ought not!
    No you ought not!

Then the system of strings tugs on the tip of my wings
(cut from cardboard and old magazines)
Makes me warble and rise like a sparrow
And in the place where I stood, there is a circle of wood
A cord or two, which you chop and you stack in your barrow

It is terribly good to carry water and chop wood
    Streaked with soot, heavy booted and wild-eyed;
As I crash through the rafters
And the ropes and pulleys trail after
And the holiest belfry burns sky-high

Then the slow lip of fire moves across the prairie with precision
While, somewhere, with your pliers and glue you make your first incision
And in a moment of almost-unbearable vision
Doubled over with the hunger of lions
'Hold me close', cooed the dove
Who was stuffed, now, with sawdust and diamonds

I wanted to say: why the long face?
Sparrow, perch and play songs of long face
Burro, buck and bray songs of long face!
Sing: I will swallow your sadness and eat your cold clay
Just to lift your long face

And though it may be madness, I will take to the grave
    Your precious longface
And though our bones they may break, and our souls separate
    - why the long face?
And though our bodies recoil from the grip of the soil
    - why the long face?

In the trough of the waves
    Which are pawing like dogs
    Pitch we, pale-faced and grave,
As I write in my log

Then I hear a noise from the hull
    Seven days out to sea
And it is the damnable bell!

And it tolls - well, I believe, that it tolls - for me!
    It tolls for me!

Though my wrists and my waist seemed so easy to break
Still, my dear, I would have walked you to the very edge of the water
And they will recognise all the lines of your face
In the face of the daughter of the daughter of my daughter

Darling, we will be fine, but what was yours and mine
Appears to be a sandcastle that the gibbering wave takes
But if it's all just the same, then will you say my name:
Say my name in the morning, so I know when the wave breaks?

I wasn't born of a whistle or milked from a thistle at twilight
No, I was all horns and thorns, sprung out fully formed, knock-kneed and upright
    So: enough of this terror
    We deserve to know light
And grow evermore lighter and lighter
You would have seen me through
But I could not undo that desire

    Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh desire
    Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh desire
    Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh desire

From the top of the flight
    Of the wide, white stairs
Through the rest of my life
Do you wait for me there

For increadibly sad id have to go with 'Daddys Gone' by Glasvegas. Its basically talking about his father walking out,and saying how he will never be that person. It geuinly brings a tear to my eye when i think about the song for long

    How you are my hero
    how your never here though
remember times when you put me on your shoulders
how i wish it was forever you would hold us
right now im too young to know
how in the future it will affect me when you go
you could have had it all
    you, me, and mum y`know
    anything was possible

i wont be the lonley one
sitting on my own and sad
    a fifty year old
    reminiscing what i had

i wont be the lonley one
sitting on my own and sad
    forget your dad, he's gone

all i wanted was a kick-a-bout in the park
for you to race me home when it was nearly getting dark
how i could've been yours, and you be mine
it could've been me and you until the end of time

As for lyrics i dont understand, this from Florence and the Machine
'This is a gift it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight'

do what you want, when you want
be as fuckin' insincere as you can
what kind of way is that to treat your wife
to see your son on saturdays
what way is that to live your life?

i wont be the lonley one
sitting on my own and sad
    a fifty year old
    reminiscing what i had

i wont be the lonley one
sitting on my own and sad
    forget your dad, he's gone

This must be the ugliest piece of bread I've ever eaten
This must be the ugliest piece of bread I've ever eaten

This must be the ugliest piece of bread I've ever eaten
    Wrapped in a foil-like substance
    It's an unidentified object
    Shapelessly square
    God, it's so ugly
    I wonder why
    Maybe the answer lies
In the thickness or the size

"take a breath jump over the side" -

"for you i'd wait till kingdom come,
until my days, my days are done,
say you'll come and set me free,
just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me"

    The cure
"i found myself alone alone alone,
above a raging sea that stole the only girl,
I loved and drowned her deep inside of me"

    etc etc

    Hands touch,
    eyes meet.
    Sudden silence...
    sudden heat.
    Hearts leap,
    in a giddy whirl.
    He could be that boy...
    but I'm not that girl.

    Dont dream to far...
dont loose sight of who you are.
Dont remember that rush of joy.
    He could be that boy,
    I'm not that girl!

Every so often we long to steal,
to the land of what might have been.
But that doesnt soften the ache we feel...
    when reality sets back in.

    Blithe smile.
    Lithe limb...
    she who's winsome...
    she wins him.
Gold hair with a gentle curl.
    Thats the girl he choose.
    And heaven knows,
    I'm not that girl.

    Dont wish,
    dont start!
    Wishing only wounds the heart!
I wasnt born for the rose and pearl.
    There's a girl I know.
    He loves her so...
    I'm not that,
    girl.

That song makes me cry (WICKED (I'm Not That Girl")
