One of my absolute favorites ever is Dune by Frank Herbert. Fahrenheit 451 comes pretty close, too.

I'm extremely fond of Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, too! And I have yet to read a Terry Pratchett book I don't like, but I have a special spot in my heart for Monstrous Regiment. (Strong female lead! Crossdressing ladies! AND LESBIANS. A+ WINNER)

1984's in my top 3 too. Rounding it off is "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters, and a bit of nostalgia with "To Kill a Mockingbird".

OMG I love you (*hug*) Neil Gaiman is the bomb, his book of short stories Fragile Things is one of my favorites and of course Good Omens just beats the socks off anything. Dune is so much fun too!

My additions to the list though....
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanne Clarke
All of Anne Rice's Vampire novels
Cat's Cradel by Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorites of his, but I love his short story collection Bagombo Snuff Box
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
    and the best for last....
    ENDER'S GAME!!!! by Orson Scott Card <3 <3 <3 <3

    haha, 1984 is frekkin AWESOME!!
    I have many faves, but....

"Wrack and Roll" by Bradley Denton. Read it. Now. I swear, you could smoke the pages and get high. It is entirely awesome.

The books "Flesh and Spirit" and "Breath and Bone" by Carol Berg ard another of my repeat rereads. I'm actually reading the second one right now and I enjoy them every time

If I'm in the mood for murder, zombies, vampires, were-things, irrationally hot men that DO NOT SPARKLE and bad-a people with guns, I read the Anita Blake:Vampire Hunter series, by Laurell K. Hamilton. Begin great, go to porn around the 8th? book, and are trying to get better now at the 17th  wonderful though.

Anything by Ray Bradbury. OMG, I would sacrifice a lesser body part to meet that man.

And when i need my awesome scifi spot tickled, "Ender's Game" and "Ender's Shadow" by Orson Scott Card, and "The Gods Themselves" by Isaac Asimov always hit the spot.

That is the extremely, cut-to-the-bone-bare basics.

Harry potter is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Big fan of any satire by Dave Berry, and for more serious faire, I loved 'Paradise' by Toni Morrison, which I read for a lit class, and really enjoyed it.

I used to have a thing for clive cussler, but he got stale once I realized the dirk pitt books really only change the details between themselves.

Also, percy jackson. I usually loathe first person *since 90% of the people who try to write it, cant; coughstepheniemeyertellsyoueverythinginsteadofshowinglikeyouaresuposedtocough.

I will read anything, but I really love childrens and young adults since it is harder to keep their attention, so writers who write those tend to have to try harder to make their stories worth reading so that they are engaging. The problem is, alot try too hard, and their stories seem to fall flat, which is why I like Riordan and Rowling, as they are able to weave a good yarn without resorting to fluffering and infantile inapporpriate bodice ripping shallow tittilation, which seems to be a sad trend in young adult these days.

good stories dont need to be sexed up to be good. infact, sexing it up tends to weaken them.

I have a weird taste in books. By weird I mean it's all over the place from The Lord of The Rings to The Den of Shadows series to more manga than is healthy, to the _____ and Philosophy* books.

If you dont know what im talking about theres this huge series of books about various pop culture...things and linking them with philosophy like... Watchmen and Philosophy, The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy, Twilight and Philosophy, The Daily Show and Philosophy....you get the idea.

I agree, except have you read "Lost" yet? I started it this past year and it was torture just trying to read it. I still haven't finished it yet, so I don't know if he managed to turn the book around at all. I just know it was hell to read, and felt totally unlike his other works.

Absolutely breathtaking book. The level of detail is extrodinary, and we really love the characters in the book. All time favorite.
