Anyone excited? I really only pay attention to curling during the winter games, but I have grown to like some of the ski events, especially the technical runs. I am going to watch the opening, even though I am annoyed we in PST timezone are the same one as the olympics timezone, but we have to wait a hour for the shitty local news, and instead watch on delay.

I saw that on the news and they actually showed the accident. It was crazy. Sad :frowning2:

Yeah it is sad. Officials have started an investigation into the accident. A few athletes have complained about that very venue actually.

I have decided to tune into the Olympics from time to time although I am pretty split. Although I'm generally a fan of the Olympics, I'm somewhat disappointed in how Olympic organizers have gone about in organizing the games and the fact that some Aboriginal groups haven't been treated fairly. But hopefully, organizers will make it up to them.

But, yeah I will be watching some of the coverage.....

Whose idea was it to have the opening ceremony indoors?

"We are Ireland, we have a bobsleigh team..."

Not much local interest really, but the skiing and snowboarding events are usually pretty good to watch

6pm PST on CTV is the start of the Opening Ceremonies. Mirko told me of course.

I'm going to try to watch them if only for a moment.
Throughout the following weeks, I'll be watching the skiing (aerials, moguls) and bobsledding mostly. I think they'd all be awesome to try...

nbc can go to hell. if you live in the PST time zone in the states *same as vancouver's time zone*, you have to wait three hours to watcha tape delay, while everyone else in the united states gets to watch it live. WHO THE HELL NEEDS TWO HOURS OF LOCAL NEWS DISCUSSING THE OLYMPICS WHEN WE COULD JUST WATCH THE OLYMPICS INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is why god invented the f word!

That sucks! That is something I have never understood about American TV coverage of international sporting events.

it angers me *if that is not already clear* that we are being told "oh, you have to wait till 9pm."

I understood torino and bejing. the time zone difference was so different that I was up a 2am to watch curling at the 2006 olympics. but, we are the same timezone. one time zone over is already watching it... but we are being told we have to wait three hours. So, at the time when most of the spectile is done with, and 3/4th of america has seen it, we are getting it, when canadians directly north of us, it is becoming a memory for. cross the border, you get it live... directly south, screw you *says nbc.*

...Personally, I think our 'performers' were worse than Beijing's performers (so far) but maybe I'm just being critical. I don't know.

I think the torch bearer should wear a flame retardent undersuit and then cover him/herself in the flame in a suit overtop of that suit and then run into the stadium and jump into the torch. That'd heat things up (and no one would get hurt but it would be highly entertaining).

You can probably find a live stream online for a live broadcast.

If it is any consolation, you haven't missed all that much. It is a bit boring actually. Just wish Canadians could put a proper show together.

Thank goodness they didn't show the Beaver as being one of the four animals of the true North. Oh and...you get a new version of Canadian history, which is interesting to say the least....

They do it because the ratings are higher when they show it in primetime.

It's on the Canadian West Coast....what do you expect?

Well, I think they could have made the Opening Ceremonies better.

I personally thought it was better than Beijing's. Then again, I like Canada a lot more than I like China (with their human rights violations, censoring of everything, refusal to recognize Tibet and Taiwan as independent countries..The list goes on and on.)

Good job Canada! Minnesota's proud of you

I personally thing it is better than Beijing's as well (thanks for bringing it up, person above)

Beijing was just ... people ... really lacked art...

and Vancouver had originality, and showcased people as artists and parts of a work.

(though no-one's supposed to notice the glitch *cold sweat pours*)
