Though there are plenty of good songs out there with good lyrics, very few lyrics have ever stood out to me for their own sake. I usually see the lyrics as just the medium for the singer to add his part to the song, and when I really listen to them, most of them don't stand out. There are, however, a few exceptions:

"Tom Sawyer" by Rush

"Disarm" by Smashing Pumpkins

And, of course, all of "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin.

I absolutely adore them, their lyrics are amazing and intelligent.
