    I get the feeling the rest of the world is missing out on some great musical talent coming from Canada. We're such a shy country that sometimes we don't promote our music to the world, but there's some awesome stuff here. Here's a few of my favorites - if you've never listened to them have a listen on You Tube for an idea of what they do;

Sam Roberts - looks like Jesus and sounds awesome!
The Waking Eyes - from my hometown...
Metric - too good for words!
Tegan And Sara - two lez sisters from Alberta (yeah, surprises me too!) into the indie stuff
K'Naan - I love Waving Flag (the theme song for the World Cup 2010)
Great Big Sea - if you've never rocked out to Newfie music you haven't lived yet...
Billy Talent - just the thing when I need to scream
The Perpetrators - an amazing local band

An honorable mention goes to The Hidden Cameras, a gay band from Toronto...

Which Canadian bands or musicians do you like?

    Rush.

(Billy Talent is okay too :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Purely for the first song I ever learned on guitar:slight_smile:

    Priestess is kinda cool too

And Protest the Hero is amazing.

    Silverstein is eh.

Simple Plan is the 3rd worst thing to come out of Canada. (to Nickelback and Justin Beiber)

    Steppenwolf is pretty sweet

Oh and Neil Young is pretty awesome too.

But in the end. Rush is definitely my favorite Canadian band.

Well, she's not a band, but I LOVE Shania Twain.
I'd go as far to say she's probably my favorite female artist.

Rush and Neil Young, of course.

VNV Nation isn't from Canada, but Ronan Harris lived in Toronto a while and they played their first show here.

Ayria is neat - she (Jennifer Parkin) opened for VNV the last show of theirs I went to.

Hmm. Most of the music I listen to is English or European, though.

The only band I am familiar with out of all of the ones mentioned so far is Rush, but considering that they are the only band to ever be made Officers of the Order of Canada, I don't think it's a bad choice.

    Sarah McLachlan
    Jann Arden!!! (hilarious live)
Susan Aglukark -- yay someone else knows who she is!
    Chantal Kreviazuk!!! (excellent live)
    Anne Murray

In the sad but true category:
    Celine Dion
    Shania Twain
    Avril Lavigne

How can you not like Justin Bieber? He's just so... ridiculous! The sad thing is he has a pretty decent voice (based on his early YouTube videos) but all his songs are autotuned and computerized à la Cher in Believe.

How could I forget Avril! Nobody's Home is one of my favorite songs of all time, even more than my favorite Rush song (The Camera Eye, for the curious).

Billy Talent members were chilling in lounge chairs at a night club I go to every few weeks. I waved and said hi just as me and my friends were leaving.
    They're pretty good.

I really love Canadian music, especially lots of the lesser known stuff and I know a great blog devoted to them called Turning Plaid, http://turningplaid.com/. It's a really great source!
