What was your favorite book as a kid?

Discussion in 'Entertainment and Technology' started by backtothekitchen, Mar 26, 2010.

  1. Two months ago, I got a job as a pre-kindergarten teacher, and so far, one of my favorite things about it is rediscovering all of the old picture books I loved when I was a kid -- books like The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, The House on East 88th Street, Miss Nelson is Missing, and Caps for Sale.

What were some of your favorites when you were a kid? And what other picture books can you think of that might be appropriate for a pre-kindergarten class?

  3.

Thanks for that list! I've heard of most of those (how could I forget Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day!!?), but you mentioned a few I haven't heard of, so thanks!

It also made me remember another one: The Principal's New Clothes. That half-naked old guy walking around the school still cracks me up.

My favourite author was and still is Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel).
I have always loved Horton Hears a Who!, although I daren't ever watch the film as it would undoubtedly ruin the idyllic simplicity that comes with the illustrations and writing in the book for a cold and shiny Hollywood gloss.

I read encyclopedias as a child, so I really can't answer.

But I recommend And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell.

It's about two gay penguins who adopt an egg. It's been banned by some people though so it may not get the green light for a class reading.

I heard about that and the controversy in it. One of my profs even mentioned it during a lecture and this one girl blurted, "Hahaha! People are worried about kids copying gay penguins?!?"
