Where's rock? Isn't it one of the major genres? o_o

Evidently, my favorite genre is rock, mainly alternative and industrial rock.

Screamo isn't a real genre, there are different genres that use screaming/growling vocals but that is not limited to one genre at all. Screamo also implies the existence of Emo. Emo DOES exist, but so many different subgenres of rock and metal are mislabeled as Emo and subsequently Screamo. Therefore, Screamo shouldn't be used.

    Indie isn't a real genre either =/

=/ and what about Classic Rock? There are already tons of threads just like this by the way. Please use the searchbar on a thread idea that is probably common.

I would say Indie and Techno/Trance/Dance. Indie's good for getting out my feelings and relating to things while techno puts me in a good mood all the time.

Wow, sorry but that's a big one, I really don't understand your opinion. I don't see why you would delete a big genre like screamo just because fags on youtube said The Rasmus was "lol shit emo gay band" (if we are talking about the same kind of mislabelling).
Besides, imo there are many genres that are much harder to define than screamo (IDM/trip hop/post rock for example), and, hopefully, they still exist. It's okay if we can't really say which band belong to them, as long as we can see that it exists (in other words as long as we can see specific links between some bands).

The thing is that screamo is mostly the result of mislabeling. If there is ACTUAL screamo thats not actually just a subgenre of Metal (you know what I'm talking about), then forgive me for being wrong. But most band thats people say are "screamo" ... aren't screamo.

Here we go. Still. Its like the most used name for mislabeling of music genres.

In your link : screamo is never linked with metal, I think that's a much different idea they show in the article. (interesting reading though, I wanted to give you envy as an actual band but in fact it seems it's not linked at all with the old emo xd)

i would have to disagree, if anyone asks what the majority of my music is, i say indie. It very much is a genre, which many of the bands i like fit into. Its a certain type of guitar rock, but you wouldn't want to call it that, as that would lead to people confusing it with rock music, something which it certainly isn't.

If you're gonna say indie isn't a genre, you could say pop isn't a genre, or metal isn't a genre, since any artists that would be placed in those brackets could be placed somewhere else technically.
