There is a reason Ellen is in the Homosexual Hall of Fame. She really kicked down the door for openly LGB (sadly I think the barrier still exists for the Trans part of our community) actors and actresses in Hollywood. I love her. When I was young and impressionable my mom used to watch her sitcom all the time. I think it may have had something to do with my development and knowing at an early age that I liked guys.
Hands down, I found that this was one of the best coming outs on television for a fictional character ever. Such a milestone. Hard to believe it was 13 years ago. I hated to find out that Laura Dern couldn't find work for a year after doing the episode.
