My top 3 would be the rainbow trilogy Rainbow boys Rainbow high Rainbow road Another one is SO hard to say, but its not as good "Hello" I lied was ok too. Im currently reading boy meets boy ^_^ but I would say go with rainbow boys
A good book about one person and the emerging gay movement would be the Mayor of castro Street - Harvey Milk. More good reading would be patricia nell warrens the front runner, billys boy, and the fancy dancer.
I was reading the SEVENS series a year or two ago. I only read the first two books (out of seven) and it contained a gay character. I don't really know how it all turned out for him I really want to get the remaining books! So if you read them make sure you tell me how they are!
