I hadn't heard about the fish. Both cases are really odd. I'll be interested to learn what the causes were.

my first reaction was that something entered the air that suffocated the birds.

There are times when certain gasses get released (lake neos being a example) that will suffocate anything living in the area. sometimes, only smaller animals more easily overwhelmed by the mixture will die, but humans wont be effected because they can handle a greater load.

but you would have likely expected more than just fish and birds.

I wonder though if there are any lakes that do not have proper circulation, and some gases just collected to a point of ultra saturation in the lower levels until something broke the balance, and it erupted.

It's saying that the birds were most likely spooked by the fireworks. They have poor eyesight and were flying at home level rather than treetop level, so they hit homes, etc and plummeted to the ground. The fish were most likely an illness that only hit one species.

Yes but people only think it's apocalyptic because it's getting closer to 2012. I bet anything it's happened several times before, but the news just didn't cover it as much. The one article said that these things have happened before and it just happens.

apperently, these dieoffs are extremely common... people just are taking more notice because it is happening in more populated areas... which is understandable.

the only threat the world faces in 2012 is the possiblity that Palin running for president.

We need a president who doesnt have to be explained that there is a north korea and a south korea, where afganastan and iraq are respectively on the map, and that the consitution does not say we were founded as a chirstian nation.

  13. Wtf? Why am I only hearing about this today?

Again no. It has happened several times before, it's only weird because it happened in a more popular area and thus more coverage.
