Any other cricket fans around? Who are you going for?

I LOOOOVE cricket, and i especially LOOOOOOOVE the cricket world cup. I'm a huge Zimbabwe fan, i hope they do well in this cup and maybe they can spark themselves up to some sort of form... i'd love to see them start doing as well as the team from about 10 years ago used to =D bring back Heath Streak!

if they don't win, i hope Sri Lanka do, i have a big soft spot for their team, i love to see innovative spinners do well (and kumar sangakkara is SO handsome =P).

So, who do you hope wins the cup this year?

[edit] It would also be great to see Bangladesh get to the semis at least!

looking at the list above, got me to thinking it's impressive how cricket is a truly world game. 14 teams from 5 continents... 4 asian, 3 european, 3 african, 2 australasian, 2 american. It couldn't be split much better!

Global, with a rather strong correlation to countries which were part of the British empire. But that's probably just coincidence, and definately nothing to do with how many countries we invaded :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Anywayyy, obviously I want england to win, though sadly we seem to be very good at test cricket and very good at twenty20, but haven't yet managed to work out 50 over cricket.

    hehehe

The staying power has nothing to do with british imperiousness, but everything to do with the awesomeness of cricket! That's my story and i'm sticking with it.

haha, sweet, i'm not alone =P

and ya, watch some of it if you can! I'm sorry to say i've hooked you onto a weak team, zimbabwe have been non-competitive since mugabe kicked all the white players out of the team early in the millenium. High hopes this year though.

    [edit]
there's also a baseball world cup, hockey world cup, rugby world cup, rugby league world cup (different sport), lawn bowls world cup..... lots and lots and lots of cups. After FIFA, this is my favourite cup though =D

Well, since 60% (!!!!!) of the EC population (from a bustling voting population of five voters so far) are fans of Zimbabwe, i thought i owed you all an update....

Zimbabwe's first game vs. australia is half way done. Australia's innings just finished and they ended up with a WELL below-par total of 262, after an excellent bowling performance from the zimbabwe squad.

It's on a pretty flat track (which for those not in with cricket parlance, means that it's a cricket pitch from which it is relatively very easy to score runs on), so Zimbabwe have an excellent chance at beating the quadruple world champions in their first pool game!!!

    GO BOYS!!!!!!!!

For my friend's sake and because I've only watched one game of cricket in my lifetime (India vs. South Africa) I'm cheering for India. Heh. Go India!

I don't care if no-one voted for the netherlands, i love seeing associate teams do well =D

Holland has just posted a wonderful first innings total of 6 for 292, led by a sparkling 119 runs from just 110 balls by Ryan ten Doeschate against a lacklustre England bowling attack riddled with fielding errors and poor bowling.

England, one of the five teams considered likely champions amongst most cricket pundits, have a challenge ahead of them!

It's a flat pitch.... but GO DUTCHMEN!!!

Classic England. Making what should have been an easy win against a weak side into an increadibly stressful nail biter. Oh well, the best sides find a way to win, even when they are playing badly, as the old saying goes

    Wow, what a match. Breathtaking.

anyone else watch it? Ajmal shahzad's fabulous 6 for england in the last over was almost too much. Wonderful match, that's what world cup cricket is all about!

    India 338 all out (49.5 overs), S. Tendulkar 120 (115), T. Bresnan 5/48
    England 338 for 8 (50 overs), A. Strauss 158 (145), Z. Khan 3/64

not only that, a Canadian cricketer held the record for the fastest world cup century of all time for years... which to a non cricketer, means he smashed a shitload of runs for canada in a minimum of time, extremely impressively! Picture a batter hitting about ten home runs in one game. Something like that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Davison_(cricketer)

yep, they're a bit like that in the one day game!

haha, well, more fun for us =P
