What would you consider to be the Greatest albums ever? Not your favourite but the Greatest, based on the music and diffrent factors associated with it. Post your albums and a short explanation of why you chose it (if you feel like doing that). We'll see if there are any reccuring themes (&&&)

City of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold is at the top of my list. Why? Because the song structure of every song is great. The technique and ability of every musician on the album is incredible. Every song is a feast for my ears and the lyrics are incredible.

Purple Rain by Prince is another great album. This album included some of his biggest hits, everything was put together very well, Prince is a musical genius, oh and the movie is incredible as well.

Love You Live by The Rolling Stones. Who can deny an amazing live disk from one of the greatest rock bands in the entire world? Great versions of You Can't Always Get What You Want and Little Red Rooster as well as others. It's just insane how good they are.

"Legend" by Bob Marley is by far one of the best albums I've heard. All of the songs have deep meaning and such great sound. "One love, one heart... let's get together and feel all right"

"Forty Licks" by The Rolling Stones. Two records of 40 years' worth of great rock n' roll. A classic favorite and an impressive display of both real hits and stuff under the radar as well. "I'll never be your beast of burden/All I want is for you to make love to me"

"Little Plastic Castle" by Ani DiFranco. Lyrics that anyone can relate to woven into a web of aggression, depression, and finding some semblance of love in a hateful world. And the poetry on that album is nothing short of terrific. "Sitting in my glass house while your ghost is sleeping down the hall/watching the little birds fly kamikaze missions into the walls"

    I'm gonna say mine;

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, because I love the they can make so much angry noise and at the same time make it so delicate and beautiful. A perfect album, in my opinion.

Funeral by Arcade Fire, because the music is so becautifull and the lyrics/vocals are so emotional. I listen to these songs over and over, if it wasn't for 7 kettles this would be an absolutly perfect album (still a good song but can be a bit dull and kind drags the album down a bit)

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth, all the noise and prepared guitars are angry and beautiful at the same time. They make noise that actually sounds like a proper song and at the same time make it sound effortless.

On Fire by Galaxie 500, because its slow and slightly sad but at the same time psychadellic and full of great songs. Close to perfect.

Hey, whatevs, different strokes for different folks. I'm an LP fan from way back - in fact, a lot of my love is probably based in high school nostalgia.

I picked them because they pretty much established their own sub-genre of rock. And actually, I think Minutes to Midnight is a more culturally relevant album of theirs.

For what it's worth, I can't stand Pink Floyd. I even smoke and I still don't get it. The only song I can tolerate is "Brick In The Wall".

Which means I probably just have no taste in music at all, but I think that's a fact which is firmly established by my enjoyment of bands such as Nickelback. *ashamed*

You smoke? How is that connected?

Anyway, of course everyone has different tastes and it's all ok and even better than everyone having the same taste. That's how we get diversity in music!

Er, nevermind. Anyway, I have never enjoyed Pink Floyd outside of *ahem* intoxication. In which case their music is groooooooooooooovy, man.

But yeah, yay for diversity! (!)

For me, the best orchestral album comprising a movie soundtrack is Braveheart. I'm a HUGE fan of movie scores. Anybody else?

Lol I feel like an innocent child now XD
Anyway, I don't think of Pink Floyd as stoner music even though I know a lot of people do.

By the way, Concretehands, I just saw the quote in your signature. Win.

Darkside of the Moon is an amazing album... never got more than an hour into the Wall without getting a bit bored and giving up.
