I don't know anyone who has heard both this and the original and likes the original more. Then again, that may have more to do with this song's placement in Donnie Darko than its own musical merits, but what have you.

I've already said this on another thread, but I think All Time Low does some of the best covers. This is my favorite one.

I'm gonna lose some major cool points here, but I thought this was much better than Rihana's cover of the song:

You know, as a huge fan of the original Segar version, I have to admit, that one's pretty good too. I think I like the original more for its quiet, atmospheric approach, which makes the escalation of the ending that much more appreciable, but I have to admit that that one has quite a bit of merit to it, as well.

If it's a youtube clip, take the code at the end of the URL and put it between "" (without the quotes).

    >>>I don't know anyone who has heard both this and the original and likes the original more.

I do. But I'm a Tears for Fears fan. I will say that the Tears for Fears video is absolutely awful. It's true that they only had about $200 to film it, but it was $200 wasted.

Sam Tsui tends to over-enunciate everything he sings, but I do like this cover he does:

Re: Greatest covers of all time (that sounded drastically different from the original

Well. I'm not sure if this counts as a GREATEST COVER OF ALL TIME or anything, but I think it's funny.

Amanda Palmer covered herself. Her song "Oasis" got banned in a couple of places for making light of date rape and abortion and stuff. And she more or less said in her blog that, hey, if she'd played it super slow and in a minor key, it would've probably gotten played.

SUPER SERIOUS VERSION. But there were only concert recordings, lo siento.

A classic from me, Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's (my hero) Hallelujah. I actually prefer Buckley's version when it's live.
