In an age of people who are famous for little to no reason, I thought it would be nice to recognize your favorite underrated singers, songs, or albums.

Mine are Pink, Janelle Monae, Kerli, and Lights.

Pink is probably the most successful out of the ladies I listed, but I still think that she's written off. She's a fantastic role model who doesn't push the envelope simply for shock value, but because she believes in it and is trying to get an important message across. I also like her honesty and sense of humor.

All of these ladies write their own songs, which is admirable in todays time. I also don't think that they try to be anyone other than themselves which I love.

Let me know your favorite underrated singers, songs, and albums in music.

Even though Christina Aguilera used to be REALLY big, and she had the movie (forgot what it was called), you never really hear about her much anymore.

Indie/Folk
Iron & Wine
Antlers
Bon Iver (He gets attention, but he should get more of it.)
Aqualung

Rock:
Dandy Warhols
Interpol
The Shins

Instrumental:
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
American Football

Others:
Sia
Ani DiFranco (for some reason nobody knows this woman anymore. Very sad times.)

Also, Keane are always in the shadow of some bigger band like Coldplay; I think they deserve more of a spotlight as well.

That's all for now. I'm constantly talking about these artists and none of my friends know them, it's really annoying.

Oh Boy; this is my favourate subject!

Cocteau Twins; Elizabeth Fraser is one of the greatest singers of all time, even if she doesn't make sense all the time (or most of the time) and all of the guitar work is just amazing.

Galaxie 500; He may not be the best singer (some people I know think he's awful) but the songs are so good and a shamefully low number of people have heard about them.

Beach House; Lots more attention about their last album, but still not nearly well enough know. Victoria Legrand's voice is amazing, I saw them live and it was even better (I was in the front row, had to elbow a few people to keep my place, fortunatly the guy I went with is huge)

She has a fantastic voice, but I think that with Bionic she got way too caught up in trying to reel people in with over-sexualized electro-pop. I must say that Bionic is a guilty pleasure of mine though XD Was her movie, Burlesque, any good?

Sia is wonderful. I need to get her first cd as well as listen to her second more. Tying the two singers together, the most meaningful songs on Bionic were those co-written by the wonderful Sia. I think Christina should collaborate more with her in the future.

And TheDarkerPoet, I know exactly what you mean. I'm always talking about who's releasing new music and who is good and has genuine talent. I swear I drive everyone crazy xD My mom listens to me talk about music the most though hahaha.

I love these guys. I saw them at a festival, they're unsigned, but live they were incredible. I particularly recommend "Hey Ho! Deepest of the Darkest"

Nellie McKay. If you haven't heard of her, you don't know what you're missing.

LOL! if anything he's overrated :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: no offense :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Rebecca Black :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: everyone is so mean to her but it's not like she wrote the song :/

Emily Osment I think is also underrated :/ she played "Lily" in Hannah Montana, I kinda like her songs better than the ones Miley has :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This. He doesn't even really have the talent of the other artists listed.

Benji. I love you; however, comments like that may get you hit xD

Marie Digby. She's amazing, plays piano, guitar, and writes the songs she sings. Plus when she covers a song she changes it and it sounds beautiful. I sort of have a crush on her... xD

Her cover of Telephone by Gaga

Abney Park, Otep Shamaya..... wishing I had some local bands to throw in here right now. Not really my type of music but I think I'm obliged to say Whitney Irwin cos I know her.
I'm living in a sphere of goth music and goth websites..... so I don't really know what counts as underrated. There are bands that most people I talk to online seem to know about and bands that made it really huge within that sphere, but most people have probably never heard of them.....
I'm reluctant to call those bands underrated. Even Abney Park is borderline. If it wasn't such a small scene that they're huge in I wouldn't count them at all......
lol I have weird definitions

anthony green... idk if his style of singing is exactly... healthy or anything but god i love it.

and FUCK YES christina aguilera as of recently. people be way too damned caught up in shit surrounding her and other artists and national anthems and arrested for intoxication shit to realize she is STILL one of the most talented artists today.
