Recently I've been listening to a lot of indie bands with that sort of Punk aggression combined w/ 60's pop sound. Anyone else have a fondness for such music? Any recommendations?

Okay, so Imma recommend you some shoegazers from the 90's, which is what Best Coast are a lot like, so you may be interested in them if you haven't allready heard off all of them; loads of reverb, dreamy vocals, punky edge, 60's harmonies

My Bloody Valentine; they ARE shoegaze, Kevin Shields basically invented the genre and Loveless is a masterpiece

Ride; they contain a member of Oasis, and part of me will never forgive him for contributing to that.

Jesus and Mary Chain; actually noise pop but similarly a lot like the indie/punk stuff you were asking about; reverb, noise, harmony

LOL, very cool :slight_smile:. You know I've always noted on the backside of my mind to listen to My Bloody Valentine and Jesus and Mary Chain because I know how influential they are, but I never really got to it; they're both brilliant. What do you think their stand out album is, that way I can add it to my list of things on Amazon?

When you mentioned Oasis I got scared for a minute, but this is great :slight_smile:. You know in a weird way Ride kinda reminds me of Alice In Chains.

I play bass (terribly), so I don't see myself entering a band anytime soon LOL.

My Bloody Valtine have 2 albums and a load of obscure eps that sell for ridiculous amounts; (their ep You Made Me Realise has three great songs; 'You Made Me Realise', 'Thorn' and 'Drive it all over Me' which you might want to listen to on youtube) In terms of Albums 'Loveless' is just amazing, the best tracks are 'Soon', 'Sometimes', 'When You Sleep' and 'Only Shallow' but the others are great as well.

The Jesus and Mary Chain have their two best albums are the start of their career and they sound VERY different. Psychocandy is my favourate; the song you just heard is from this album and the rest is like that song but with varying levels of loudness/intensity/awsomeness. Darklands is much more melodic with little to no feedback and more focus on sounding pretty.

If you like ride I would recommend buying their 1st album, Nowhere. The original lp was 8 tracks btu CD's usually get repackaged with bonus tracks and EP's (I think my copy has like 15 tracks on it) apart from that I find the rest of their albums a little bit meh.

I would say to buy;
*Loveless
*Psychocandy
*Nowhere

Branching out form these I love Pixies and Sonic Youth;

Sonic Youth alter their guitars/pedals for lots of sounds and overall they just wright great songs

Pixies are an awesome band with really varied alt rock. Doolittle, Surfer Rosa, Bossanova are all great albums, kinda hard to pick one song but I like these;

(This one has a surf rock feel that links into your other thread :icon_bigg)

So also get
*Daydream Nation
*Doolittle/Surfer Rosa

I used to play drums in a "band" when I was 14 which consisted of me and two friend playing god awful cover songs for like 2 weeks one summer till his mum got mad about the noise and we broke up cos we had nowhere to practice (honestly, practice wouldn't have helped, they were awful guitarists and the covers sounded nothing like the actual songs.)

Oh I LOVE Sonic Youth and the Pixies!!!!!!!!!!! Speaking of which, you know who the jem in the whole lot is, right? Kim Deal <3. On Little Trouble Girl she sung w/ Sonic Youth:

Did you ever listen to The Breeders (Kim Deals band). I almost feel like saying that I like them even more than the Pixies, but I'll hold my tongue. Most people are familiar w/ the band from this big hit:

But I much prefer their previous and later albums. Listen to these:

The She is from Title TK, and has this insanely paranoid-mysterious sound to it

This is from their first album. Kurt Cobain was a huge fan of it, listing it as his 3rd favorite album of all time.

I frikkin love the Breeders! Pod is a great album, wouldn't say it's better than the Pixies, but quite close. I'm not that much of a fan of Teenager of the Year, which is meant to be Frank Blacks best post pixies moment; it never clicked for me. I would put The Breeders above Franks post pixies stuff and above tromp le mond/bossanova but below Rosa and Doolittle.
I always find it funny how Kim sings in the Breeders/on Gigantic and David sings on La La Love You, and they both obviously have much better voices that Black Francis but Pixies wouldn't be nearly as epic as they were if it hadn't of been Frank writing all those psychotic lyrics.

I've lent people copies of Doolittle and they allways tell me how Pixies ripped of Kurt and Nirvana, I enjoy telling them it was the other way around.

Yeah, I'd put it:

Doolittle
Rosa
Pod
Title TK
Mountain Battles
Last Splash
Bossanova
Tromp

But that's me :thumbsup:. Hmmmm, I don't know if I'd say the tw of them had better voices, tho. I mean, Kim is my favorite vocalist out of that bunch, but Frank's delivery is out of this word; niether Kim nor David could ever sing the way he could. As far as Frank's solo stuff, I've never actually listened to any of it lol. He ust have 30,000 solo albums by now, so I never knew where to start. I might try giving Teenager of the Year a listen to see what I think of it.

0_0, there are actually people that think the Pixies ripped off Nirvana :eusa_doh::roflmao:

(With that being said I also think Nirvana is one of the greatest bands of all time)
