I'm big on scissor sisters, bloc party and sam sparrow. Any other good ones?
I want to expand my library.

I don't really listed to artists so much as songs, so while I can't name my favorite band fronted by a gay person or gay artist, I can say that this is one of my favorite songs by a band fronted by a gay singer.

A lot of Eighties duos had gay showman, Wham!, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, etc. They're good and bands like Queen and Culture Club are amazing in terms of having gay singers. As for solo artists, Elton John all the way.

I had no idea about Bloc Party and R.E.M. It's cool to know that they have gay/bi lead singers, yet neither the singers nor the media makes it a huge ordeal.

This video makes me laugh so much. Identical twin lesbian singer/songwriters.

Alison Goldfrapp is either bi or a lesbian (not sure which...)

When The Xx first got attention there were a few interviews that talked about the two singers being gay but now the interviewers get told not to talk about personal/sex lives with the band and all the old interviews have vanished.

(They both have a vibe anyway...)

More of the chameleon that is Goldfrapp

These are all great! Thank you so much. I'm falling head over heels for The XX :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But yeah Bloc Party's lead singer is doing doing a solo project atm. A lot of them relate to lgbt issues. Pretty cool songs too.

You might look up Kitchens of Distinction. They were a college-alt-rock band from the late 80s and early 90s, in the vague sort of area as R.E.M. The lead singer was always out, and it's been suggested that the band didn't do as well as they could've had he stayed in the closet a while longer. (Hey, there, Michael Stipe.) "Drive That Fast" was their biggest hit, such as it was.

There are two local bands with members that I SWEAR are gay. It's especially strange since I don't have much gaydar to speak of. But they both have girlfriends, and although I've never asked outright, they've never seemed to indicate that they were anything but completely straight. So I've let that slide. Still, it's hard for me to see them perform without thinking "No, c'mon..."

And I wonder if that video was an inspiration for the creators of Mirror's Edge..

Oh my god Jesse is bi? That is amazing. Her song "Who You Are" got me through a lot when I came out.

And the Indigo Girls. They're a bit more folksy, but they're a gay classic.

Yep. In an interview with Telegraph she said ”I’ve been with guys and I’ve been with girls,” she explained, “and I kind of think it’s about the person not the genitals. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, she doesn’t know what she is’. But I definitely think my generation is more easy going about it.” She went on to say, “I think it’s harder for boys [to be bisexual]. I think if a girl is bi there’s more acceptance because guys like it. Whereas boys get more stereotyped. And girls are a bit like, ‘Oooh my boyfriend’s bisexual’. But it is what it is. That’s the message I want my album to bring- to just be true to yourself.”

Vanessa Carlton recently came out as bisexual at a Pride event of some sort. She wasn't thinking that in talking to a small, select group of people that everyone would know, but now recognizes that anything you say can be put on the internet (which is what happened). She said her mom was most worried about having grandchildren.

It's not much of a surprise to me because her music video for Hands On Me featured gay and lesbian couples.
