So I was searching a television commercial archive for an ancient commercial (which I didn't find) but came across this one instead, and I totally remember it.

Please excuse the poor quality, God knows what technology somebody used in 1972 to record it as VCRs didn't really exist at the time.

In retrospect, I can remember thinking the guy in the commercial (who would have been about my age at the time the commercial was aired) was cute... and, sadly to admit, I thought the fashions he was wearing were cute too  But at the time it never occurred to me that thinking this guy was cute might mean <gasp> that I liked guys

First of all those shoes are just terrible. Although they look very comfortable.

As for the levis commercial, seeing as how there are a few close ups of guys butts, ya this "should" have been a good indicator.

Yes well... in those days, that was the fashion, sad to say. Along with the wild color courduroys, which have gone in and out of fashion since.

Indeed, even at the time they were pretty much acknowledged as pretty hideously ugly. One of the jokes was that you threw away the shoes and wore the boxes. But that didn't stop people (me, included) from wearing them.
