Hey everyone, I'm bored and I want to buy a tv series on dvd or something to watch in the evenings... I'm stuck at my parents place while I work on my dissertation and till I my lease starts on my new flat and I'm bored! So any good recommendations? I'm looking for something serious, like a crime one or something... is 'The Wire' worth getting?

  2. X-files. That's how I passed the time when I wasn't working on stuff or doing whatever during my semester off last fall.

Yeah that's actually one I've been meaning to get my hands on for ages. Loved x-files when I was younger, might be cool to revisit it! Thanks for the suggestion

  4. House MD would be a good choice...

I don't know what kind of series you've watched earlier or what are you watching right now but i can recommend Dexter if you want something serious/mystery/crime.

awww, and you beat me to the avatar:the last air bender. was just coming on to recommend it. for a cartoon, it is really great, and has a well developed cast of characters, and a highly developed story structure.

Can't wait for the sequel series next year.

X-Files is DEFINITELY win! I have all 9 seasons & both the movies & typically watch them all once a year! It's still one of those shows that's better than a lot of stuff on TV right now, plus I've always though that Gillian Anderson was a little cute (although some of those hairstyles & outfits are really dated now & funny to see!)

If I had to recommend a TV series on DVD, my choices would be The Big Bang Theory, Spartacus: Blood & Sand, The Walking Dead & Supernatural. Love them all sooo much!

OMG! The Walking Dead is sooo worth getting! Season 1 is only like $25 at WalMart (at least it was when I was there last nite), but it is only 6 episodes, so you would probably go thru it in short order. Can't wait for Season 2 this fall tho!!!

    Dexter, definetly.

  16. Kiersten is dead on, no pun intended. The Walking Dead's first season was fantastic. (*Which reminds me, I should rewatch that before the second season...)

And Kiersten, I agree. Scully is a babe, even with the early nineties haircut and suits lol.

The Walking Dead deserves even more recommendations. <3
Torchwood is kind of investigation-y. It has strong sci-fi elements, good stories, and even gay relationships.

Yes, Fringe! If you're into sci-fi.

  20. Torchwood is alright, and yes! Gay relationships and that's normal on the show. Hooray for british tv! But honestly if I were going to go there, I'd go with Doctor Who even though it's not as serious, I think it's a better show overall.

I also put in another vote for Fringe, it's a pretty good show.
