Just found out yesterday that Rise Against has been nominated by MTV's Video Music Awards for their music video "Make It Stop (September's Children)". It's a tribute video associated with the It Gets Better campaign, and was made in memorial of the five teenage boys who killed themselves last September as a result of being bullied for being gay.

I've always loved Rise Against for their activism and their strong lyrics, but this is a music video that touched really close to home for me.

If you like it, be sure to vote Rise Against to win the VMA's Best Video With A Message. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:ride:

    Woah, woah.

Bang bang go the coffin nails, like a breath exhaled,
    Been gone forever.
It seems just like yesterday, how did I miss the red flags raised?
Think back to the days we laughed.
We braved these bitter storms together.
Brought to his knees he cried,
But on his feet he died.

What God would damn a heart?
And what God drove us apart?

What God could make it stop?
    Let this end.
Eighteen years pushed to the ledge.
    It's come to this,
    A weightless step.
    On the way down singing,
    Woah, woah.

Bang bang from the closet walls,
    The schoolhouse halls,
    The shotgun's loaded.
Push me and I'll push back.
    I'm done asking, I demand.

    From a nation under God,
I feel its love like a cattle prod.
Born free, but still they hate.
Born me, no I can't change.

It's always darkest just before the dawn.
So stay awake with me, let's prove them wrong.

    Make it stop.
    Let this end,
Eighteen years pushed to the ledge.
    It's come to this,
    A weightless step.
    On the way down singing,
    Woah, woah.

The cold river washed him away,
    But how could we forget?
Gathering the candles, but not their tongues.

And too much blood has flown from the wrists,
Of the children shamed for those they chose to kiss.
Who will rise to stop the blood?

    We're calling for,
Insisting on, a different beat, yeah.
    A brand new song.

    Whoa, whoa [x3]
    (Tyler Clementi, age 18.
    Billy Lucas, age 15.
    Harrison Chase Brown, age 15
    Cody J. Barker, age 17
    Seth Walsh, age 13.)

    Make it stop,
    Let this end.
This life chose me, I'm not lost in sin.
But proud I stand of who I am,
I plan to go on living.

    Make it stop,
    let this end,
all these years pushed to the ledge,
but proud I stand, of who I am,
I plan to go on living

God, I love this song SOOO much. I so hope that they win, although I have a feeling that one of the mainstream ones whose message is not nearly as strong, but is more popular with the voters. I guess I won't mind as much if it was Born This Way, but like Eminem's... yeah right.

But yeah, this song is really awesome. And the video. <3

Unfortunately this is not the original artist. I so wish to get hold of the original sound track, but I forgot who sang it. Here is a version by Adam Lambert who I think also did it quite good.

I have only the one music video of Rise Against and that is Prayer for the Refugee

A lovely song about rights is this one by Against Me.. Stop

here's the lyrics of Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
    Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
    No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
    No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
    When people run in circles
It's a very very, mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
    Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
    When people run in circles
It's a very very, mad world, mad world
    Enlarge your world, mad world

This really is a great song with an awesome message. It always gives me a little bit more hope for humanity when I see things like this. That there actually are people that care and are trying to make a difference.

I'm not ashamed to say that I bawled the first few times I watched this.

For some reason the scene where the black gay guy smiles up hopefully at the guy approaching his table (thinking that someone wants to sit with him) only to have the other guy spit in his food....that gets me every single time.

The fact that people feel that much disgust and hatred towards gays and lesbians is bonechilling to me.

I've watched it almost every day since I found it. It's not perfect but somehow became my favourite song at the moment. And I agree about that part with black boy at the table - it's the saddest. :frowning2:

This Rise Against song kind of reminds me of "Cry Little Sister" from the Lost Boys soundtrack:

Must be the creepy little kid choir. ^ Really wish Rise Against would do a punk rock cover of this.
