Default British Comedies

I'm not sure if a thread has already been made on this, but who else here is a fan of British Comedies?

My two favorites are:

Are You Being Served? and Keeping Up Appearances.

Victoria Wood is a genius! Parody of Awful soap operas.

There was also a show called 'The Comic Strip Presents; 5 Go Made in Dorset' where it's a parody of The Famous 5 books but they're really inappropriate and racist (which the original books where a little bit...)

I have great memories of both shows (Are You Being Served? and Keeping Up Appearances), even though neither sticks out prominently in my memory. I'm also a fan of Death at a Funeral (the original 2007 version, not the 2010 remake) and quite enjoyed it when I watched it and rewatched it later. And of course, Monty Python. Do I need to say more?

I used to like Keeping Up Appearances and Birds of a Feather when I was younger but don't like them much now - probably because the BBC has repeated them ad nauseam for decades.

Dad's Army is probably the best "old" British comedy.

The Inbetweeners is the best new comedy.

Keeping Up Appearances, Ab Fab and Are You Being Served? were my favourite shows...my mom really liked Waiting For God. Little Britain is funny...the Mighty Boosh...

Can't think of any movies off the top of my head...

Black Books with Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey is where it's at! Also Keeping Up Appearances, Vicar of Dibley.

I don't watch a lot of British comedies. Monty Python was one of my favourites and when I was a kid I was a huge fan of Mr. Bean.

This scene sticks out in my mind for some reason. I'll set it up because the clip doesn't show everything.

Mr. Bean and his girlfriend were walking down the street and the girlfriend pointed to a ring in a shop window and hinted that she wanted it for Christmas. Invariably Mr. Bean screws it up and thinks she pointed to something else. The clip starts during their romantic Christmas dinner and they exchange gifts.

I pretty much only watch British comedies.
  • Gavin and Stacey
  • Are You Being Served?
  • Father Ted
  • Vicar of Dibley
  • French & Saunders
  • Nighty Night
  • Outnumbered
  • Lead Balloon
  • QI < Best show ever
  • Supersizers Go (for Sue Perkins.. and you can even watch most episodes on YouTube)
  • After You've Gone
  • Who's Line is it Anyway? (the original version with Clive Anderson, not the terrible American one)

And of course their talk shows, like Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Graham Norton (and sometimes Top Gear) are all excellent as well.

My favourites would have to be 'Green Wing', 'Black Books', 'The IT Crowd', 'The Inbetweeners', 'Spaced' (I love spaced, it was actually just like my life for a while)... and then there's some others which are supposed to be amazing which I've never got round to watching like 'The Thick of It'... loads of British comedies.

I love various British sitcoms, the majority of my DVD Collection consists of them. That being said, as much as I want to include QI, Little Britain and Monty Python and the like, they're panel shows and sketch shows not sitcoms, so they're not included. There are still some I really want to get into like Spaced and Black Books, but that's for a time when they're cheap. However (and I'm surprised Only Fools and Horses and Porridge haven't been mentioned in particular):

Only Fools and Horses
Blackadder
One Foot in the Grave
Fawlty Towers
Mr Bean
Porridge
Dad's Army
Men Behaving Badly
Open All Hours *
Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em *
Keeping Up Appearances
My Family -
The Inbetweeners
(Peter Kay's) Phoenix Nights
Peep Show
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
The Vicar of Dibley
Dinnerladies
The Good Life
Lead Balloon
Not Going Out

* In limited watches.
- Good to a certain point where the quality gets worse

There are some sitcoms that are popular, yet I think are awful, like Gavin and Stacey and Outnumbered, but oh well.
