J.K. Rowling has deal for new novel for adults - Yahoo! Movies

The title and release date have not been set, but she has signed a deal with Little Brown and Co. to publish it. All we know is that it is a book for adults, and that more details will be forthcoming.

She also has closed her website so that it can be "refreshed and renovated" for the new book. she says it will relaunch this spring. I suspect that might be our first clue to what we will be in for, since she says the book is not going to be offically announced until later this year.

I kind of suspect that she might have already turned it in, and they are editing it for a fall release. That way, she can clue us into the existance and impending announcement of a publication date, but she is not going to have to crash edit the thing in six months.

Well...she hinted that she was kind of writing this book for herself. The Potter series was intended to appeal to broad audiences, and the formula she used for carrying the story was deliberately simple. I would expect this one to be a tougher read than the Potter books, but I expect that it will be her usual solid writing otherwise...and possibly quite rewarding.

The thing is that people will have such high expectations for this coming novel that if it doesn't meet or exceed them it could be very bad for her reputation.

it depends on the fairness of the expectations.

Rowling has hinted that she doesnt see herself writing more fantasy since she feels (or at least felt at that time) that she had already used up all her good fantasy ideas, and anything she tries to do might overlap with Harry's world, which she does not want to do).

If someone is expecting another fantasy, that would be a unfair expectation.

I suspect that she, having spent over five years between the publication of deathly hallows and this new book, will have taken her time to do it right.

She is extensive in her planning, and her character development.

No doubt, it will take an adjustment period to get into the story, because we will have expectations based on our experince in the past of her writing, but thats to be expected anyways.

Oh god this just made my day, I can't wait. She could publish a book of plain sheets of paper and I'd swear it's an amazing story.

there is a song that has no notes at all. it is just a person sitting at a piano for like three and a half minutes, their hands hovering over the keys, unmoving... and it is considered a work of high art.

The piece you are referring to is 4'33 by John Cage. I find it an interesting concept but the actual piece itself is a bit silly...anyway I'll shut up now because it's getting off topic.

It's even better when it's with a full orchestra and in three movements.

4'33 isn:t silent. The idea is to listen to the ambient sounfs in the area.
