In short; She released a video for her song 'Video Games' and everyone on all the indie blogs when batshit about it and wouldn't stop talking about her. Then it turned out her Dad is a hedge fund manager and she had a record deal and they all turned on her and started spreading rumours about her having plastic surgery. She went on SNL and stunk because she's only been doing this a short while and TV is stressful which made even more people dislike her. She released her album and it got critically panned but it's selling bucketloads, so at the end of the day, who's laughing? Lana. But the album really does suck, it has like 3 'good' songs. My personal favorite evidence of how vapid her album is yeah.

I quite enjoy her album. Each song feels kind of like a mini, old hollywood cinematic experience. She also seems to carry an element of mystery (which is a bit rare these days), and I'm a sucker for vintage stuff. Here's a favorite of mine, "Off To The Races".
When I first heard "Video Games" I loved it; especially the strings section added in, thought it sounded epic. Then you realize just how flat and dull her voice is over top of such beautiful sounds. The rest of her album is pretty average

She's the hipster version of Rebecca Black. Daddy bought her a new name, a new image, a career, and a horrible collagen injection. Claims she's the "gangsta Nancy Sinatra". LOL WUT? Rich white girls that went to boarding school are as gangsta as Ryan Seacrest. SNL hadn't had a performance that bad since Ashley Simpson got caught lip synching and did an Irish jig. I actually like Lana a lot. I agree that sometimes her lyrics can be dull or lame, but the music itself is so unique. "Born To Die" has crazy production, and it's really unlike anything I've ever heard. Her break out hit "Video Games" has such a unique sense of reminiscing throughout the entire song. "Blue Jeans" is also a very infectious song. I get some of the criticisms of her, mainly when it comes to some of her dull lyrics, but as far as the other musical qualities goes, she's pure gold. A lot of the hate directed towards her is because she's an indie artist that broke out and got really popular. Let's just say that a lot of people who listen to Indie (notice I didn't say all) are the kinds of people who think that anything that gets popular is bad because it's "mainstream." So basically the Hipsters who listen to Indie music. XD
