So as it gets closer to summer and Pridefest I was thinking about making myself a list/collection of 'gay' songs ...
by this I mean songs that would truly be considered gay - not just the those like 'Its Raining Men' (while a good song is technically also a 'straight' song LOL)
Rather than simply google'ing for a list (which for the most part brings up the same old stuff anyway) I figured why not ask/post here (which will also share the list with anyone wanting to do the same)

note: if you post a YouTube video, please include artist/title in the post too LOL (most of the time I read forums on my desktop computer where I can't view videos)

Here's some to start out...
Hussy Cowboy (feat Ida Olsson & Slow Notion) - She Doesn't Know (Her Husband Is Gay)
I heard this on one of the local radio stations (on their HD2 channel) a week or so ago and love it
Heven - Gay Best Friend
Another recent one I heard on the radio .. not sure if I like it or not yet
Frank Rogala - Boys Just Want To Have Sex
Frank Rogala - Fuck & Run

these are a bit older..I think most of this guy's stuff would count
John Alcorn - The Man I Love
It don't get much gayer than this one LOL
Magnetic Fields - I Thought You Were My Boyfriend
Another I really like
Sister Friction - Maleman
Sister Friction - What's Love

Another where most of their stuff would count

more..just not gonna comment on 'em all since these are better known
Coming Out Crew - Free Gay & Happy
Dillon & Dickins - Queers R Doin' It
Full Frontal - You Think You're A Man
Katy Perry - Firework
Lady GaGa - Born This Way
Lemonheads - Big Gay Heart
Morel - True (The Faggot Is You)
Murray Gold - Queer As Folk Theme
Sin With Sebastian - Shut Up (And Sleep With Me)

Err, the only ones on that list I've heard of are Firework & Born This Way (which is why I'm only talking about them), but technically wouldn't they be "straight songs" too? Firework doesn't explicitly mention anything about LGBTQ, and Born This Way is more about minorities in general, not strictly LGBTQ (though it is a pretty widely accepted "gay anthem").

Just throwing that out there. Otherwise, I had no idea there were so many "gay songs" out there

How about "Fuck You" by Lily Allen? It'd be fun to blast that in a homophobic, politically active gay marriage fighting church service sometime.

@BudderMC: while truly not a gay song, there is a point in the 'Firework' video where 2 guys kiss
'Born This Way' does have a lyric "No matter gay, straight, or bi, Lesbian, transgendered" and ofcourse "Don't be a drag - just be a queen" ...

@thedreamwatch: I just turned on my laptop & watched that one LOL

@NickD: hmmm I bet I even have that one on CD...

@SkyDiver: never heard of that one, I'll have to check it out.

I love when one of the radio stations i listens to says things like:
"You know it's a good day when your radio is all gay."
or
"Do ask. Do tell."

It's been a while since I posted this, so let me get all preachy again.

This song is called "Glad to Be Gay" by the Tom Robinson Band. It was released on the Rising Free EP in 1978. That's nearly THIRTY-FIVE years ago. Tom Robinson actually went on any television show that would have him, and performed this song. And he's not recounting a history of what gays went through in the past. He's singing about what gays were going through right then. His comments about friends getting gaybashed, and the police brutality, and whatnot - that's all happening at the same time he was promoting this song. At the outset of this song (on the EP, not in the live clip here), Tom says "This song is dedicated to the World Health Organization. It’s a medical song and it concerns a disease whose classification according to the International Classification of Diseases is 302.0." That disease? Homosexuality. At the time he recorded this song, gayness still classified as a disease by the WHO.

I sometimes hear about how brave certain artists are for coming out or doing gay-friendly songs these days, but they can't hold a candle to Tom performing this angry song about how people were treating homosexuals at that point in time. Actually, even braver than Tom were his two bandmates, who performed this song with him in 1978...even though they were straight.

These lyrics don't quite match what he's singing here - he tended to change lyrics to match any recent gay items in the news. Here are the lyrics from the EP version.

The British police are the best in the world
I don’t believe one of these stories I’ve heard
‘Bout them raiding our pubs for no reason at all
Lining the customers up by the wall
Picking out people, knocking them down
Resisting arrest as they’re kicked on the ground
Searching their houses, calling them queer
I don’t believe that sort of thing happens here

Sing if you’re glad to be gay
Sing if you’re happy that way

Pictures of naked young women are fun
In Titbits and Playboy, page three of The Sun
There’s no nudes in Gay News, our one magazine
But they still found excuses to call it obscene
Read how disgusting we are in the press
The Telegraph, People and Sunday Express
Molesters of children, corruptors of youth
It’s there in the paper it must be the truth

Try and sing if you’re glad to be gay
Sing if you’re happy that way

Don’t try to kid us, but if you’re discreet
You’re perfectly safe as you walk down the street
You don’t have to mince or make bitchy remarks
To get beaten unconscious and left in the dark
I had a friend who was gentle and short
He was lonely one evening, he went for a walk
Queerbashers caught him, kicked in his teeth
He was only hospitalised for a week
(And he still bears the scars)

Sing if you’re glad to be gay
Sing if you’re happy that way

And sit back and watch as they close all our clubs
Arrest us for meeting and raid all our pubs
Make sure your boyfriend’s at least 21
So only your friends and your brothers get done
Lie to your workmates, lie to your folks
Put down the queens, tell anti-queer jokes
Gay Lib’s ridiculous, join their laughter
"The buggers are legal now, what more are they after?"

Tell them!
Sing if you’re glad to be gay
Sing if you’re happy that way
Sing if you’re glad to be gay
Sing if you’re happy this way
