I just watched "Latter Days" last night on IMBD. It's the first gay love story movie I've seen and I thought it was absolutely excellent. I was wondering if there were any other good gay movies out there that might be available online or for download? Thanks guys!
Latter Days is a pretty good movie, I've seen it a few times. There's a movie called Beautiful Thing (1996) which you can probably find online and watch. It's pretty good. I just saw it not too long ago.
I Loved Latter Days...Being raised Mormon it held a little extra something then other movies. Shelter is highly recommended around here and so is Prayers for Bobby. Get Real is also good. Were The world Mine & The Curiosity of Chance are both good films also, if just a bit camp. Fit was brilliant. Judas Kiss was odd but I liked it. There are a few others that are worth seeing too but a lot of them are not English speaking movies and may not be your cup of tea. There is also this: Gay Celluloid for gay cinema, gay films, gay reviews. that lists just about every gay movie and short film out there, with an overview of the movie, reviews and trailers etc. might help you find other movies.
FREAKIN’ LOVE THAT FREAKIN’ MOVIE!i I liked “Get Real” and “But I’m a Cheerleader”, maybe you should check ‘em out
You can watch movies on IMDB? I really liked latter days too. It overdid some of the stereotypes a bit, but overall it was a nice story. I'm more of a documentary man myself, so I really enjoyed "For the Bible Tells Me So".
Beautiful Thing, Shelter, Get Real, and Somersturm are all good films of a similar vain (aside from the religious side). If you watch Prayers for Bobby make sure you have a box of tissues handy, you will cry at it.
Same... Like documentaries, but loved this film. I'm going to have to check out some of the others mentioned here.
Latter days, i mean the guys are really hot js. but then the dialogue is really choppy and non realistic, ya know? theres a much better movie out, but its a bit older. its called Beautiful Thing, but its british so the dialogue is a bit difficult to understand at times
I agree with you somewhat, the crying scene in the kitchen and the scene at the end when he drinks the coke are really cringe worthy but everything else is very good for a low budget gay film. What I absolutely loved about it was that it got the Mormon missionary part quite accurate. I find the same thing annoying with Shelter, some of the dialogue is painful to watch and listen too but still a lot of people rave about it, its not a horrible film either though. I guess most gay films are like that being low budget at all, even some parts of Prayers for Bobby which has amazing actors in it.
If you're interested in sticking with a religious theme, I would recommend "Save Me." I would actually recommend "Save Me" regardless
Idk, there seems to be like 6 gay movies out and they all seem to be generically the same you know? Like latter days, beautiful thing, shelter, and then broke back mtn. And the dialogue is not too good or accurate. I think it's cuz it's written by straight guys.
In a way they are. Generally they are love stories or coming of age stories or a mix of both and its because these things define them as gay movies, with out these things they just because movies with gay characters and they dont work out so well. Most movie genres are cliche though, every rom com is the same, every teen movie is the same, every horror movie has the standard boob shot etc. straight movies are bad too they just have bigger budgets lol Latter days was amazing for me because i was raised mormon and that's what separates it from the others also it was written by a gay ex mormon. Shelter was a bit bland imo. Never got through broke back mountain, got the the pitiful excuse for a "love scene" after being bored forages and gave up. haven't seen beautiful thing either. Want to watch a movie thats not the same ole story and has good dialogue?, watch Priscilla Queen of the desert! best gay movie EVER. or watch milk, which has the political point of view, amazing cast and profound importance that makes it stand out.
There is one I've watched. A sort of thriller. It's called Fragment. What basically happened, was the son who is gay was told his mother died, so he returned to his old small town home, where he had a best friend. We'll he and the best friend kinda pick up on where they left off, a good story, though the main story is a little bit of a b-movie. Not much special effect.
Sommersturm (summer storm). It's a German movie and has English subtitles but it's a great one. I saw it was already mentioned in this thread but it's so good I needed to mention it again.
Yes, LATTER DAYS is great. A classic already. You should check out SHELTER, which is another great gay themed romance!!
Oh, Latter Days, fond memories, haha . My bi male friend and I tried this movie and both couldn't finish the movie because it felt like gay porn. XD Beautiful Thing is wonderful, and it has a happy ending. And what did you mean when you said you watched Latter Days on IMDB???
