    Imagine there's no heaven
    it's easy if you try
    no hell bellow us
    above us only sky
    imagine all the people
    living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    it isn't hard to do
nothing to kill or die for
    and no religion too
    imagine all the people
    living life in peace, y....ou

you may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
and the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
no need for greed nor hunger
    a brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    sharing all the world, y...ou

you may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
I hope someday you join us
and the world will live as one

I do love this song but I feel its much better sung by someone else, his version is so emotionless to me that I find it doesn't have the impact its supposed to.

To me the A Perfect Circle cover is much more powerful and captures the intended emotion that that lyrics portray.

My suspicion is that Lennon, who was a very gentle person (and very supportive of gay people, by the way) performed that song very matter-of-factly, basically as if he was saying "Just imagine this."

Personally, I find the version above way too dark for my tastes. I'd disagree that it 'better captures the intended emotion that the lyrics portray" because Lennon was extraordinary at expressing many different emotions when he chose to, so I'd guess that his recording expressed what he intended it to. Of course... he's dead, so it's not like we'd ever be able to know for sure.

For my two cents, I think David Archuleta's version is probably one of the most moving ones I've come across (and apparently Yoko Ono was sufficiently moved by it to reach out to him and say so, as well.)
