Are there any kind of artists that either are part of or are supportive of the LGBTQ community that you like?
Freddie Mercury iOTA (Sydney) David Bowie Kimya Dawson (i think she is bi?) Michael Stipe probably many, many others i can't think of
yes! all of these I'm gonna add on... Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool (Green Day) Yulia and Lena (t.A.T.u.) Joan Jett (the Blackhearts)... pretty much any emo or alternative band i listen to has at least one member thats LGBTQ so im gunna stop here. my thumbs hurt ;p
Ric Ocasek, The Cars (bi) Jamie Stewart, Xiu Xiu (bi) Steve Brooks, Torche (gay) Fred Schneider, The B-52's (gay) If we're going by artists that don't have to be musicians then that really opens the field. Many of the really important (on an international scale) 20th century painters in the US were gay. I suppose that is a bit ironic that our country is so well known for its homophobia.
Freddie Mercury - Musician, frontman of Queen. Stephen Fry - Comedian/actor/writer Sir Ian McKellen - Actor Again there are probably more, but I can't think of any at the moment.
Darren Hayes (solo artist, also singer in Savage Garden and We Are Smug) Jónsi (also of Sigur Rós) Adam Lambert Orphans & Vandals (very gay lyrics) Sam Sparro Vampire Weekend (Keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij) Bloc Party Elton John Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) And some more where there sexuality is more ambiguous... Dangerous Muse ("We're Not Gay and We're Not Straight" anyway). The Sound of Arrows (Supposedly gay although apparently one of them has been "outed" as being straight - their music videos certainly have an homo-erotic bent though) David Bowie (although didn't he later claim that he only experimented when he was younger and is actually straight?) Milke (now Monarchy) Pretty much every 1980s/1990s boyband also seams to have a gay guy in it (aside from Take That) - N-Sync, Boyzone, New Kids on The Block, Westlife etc....
Daniel Radcliffe - I love him! He is not gay, but he's extremely supportive of LGBT people and supports the Trevor project as well.
Oof <3 <3 Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft, The xx Frank Ocean Mike Hadreas (Perfume Genius) Freddie Ruppert (This Song Is A Mess But So Am I / Former Ghosts) Travis Egedy (Pictureplane) Jónsi of Sigur Rós Owen Pallett / Final Fantasy Will Wiesenfeld (Baths) Lady Gaga Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear Kele Okereke of Bloc Party Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend / Discovery Janelle Monáe Bradford Cox of Deerhunter Patrick Wolf Brian Molko of Placebo Christopher Owens of Girls Kevin Barns of of Montreal Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu They're all in my top 100 most listened on last.fm, except Frank Ocean who evidently is particularly pertinent to the last few weeks, so I included him for the craic. So from that sample, 18% of the music I listen to is gay. And I'm pretty sure the likes of HEALTH and The Drums are gayers to some extent, too, and some others I'm not aware of / haven't came out. ---------- Post added 18th Jul 2012 at 12:05 AM ---------- I'm not sure if we even need a debate.
How could I fortget when hist music was playing as I wrote my reply :roflmao:? Amazing how he was one (the?) most scrobbled artist on Last.FM for a while before his album was even released https://twitter.com/lastfm/status/223802251066605568 Anyone looking at my Last FM chart could probably figure me out, of those with more than a dozen plays in the last month Danny Saucedo - just how many times is he going to be photographed kissing Eric Saade? Savage Garden - Darren Hayes is married to his hubby... Adam Lambert - Gay R.E.M. - Michael Strip Måns Zelmerlöw Maroon 5 - When Adam Levine does a "It gets better video" you can put them in the freindly pile at least Fall Out Boy - Pete Wentz (Bi I belive) and also sing "Gay is not a synonym for Shitty" (well G.I.N.A.S.F.S.) anyway Darren Hayes - see Savage Garden The Sound of Arrows - enough said Fleetwood Mac Vampire Weekend - Keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij Orphans & Vandals - Al Joshua Placebo - Brian Maloko is Bi I think... Sigur Rós - Jónsi... The videos/photos certainly put paid to any debate
All my favorite musicians are supportive, or I've heard them say they are at one point Heart Elton John Lady Gaga Stevie Nicks Vanessa Carlton Paul McCartney Billy Joel
