Oh God, that's a hard question. I'm going to have to go with Phantom of the Opera because I'm a poor sap and it makes me sad and I freaking love the musical scores.

I've only seen one musical in my life, Wicked, so I guess that would be my favourite lol

The Sound of Music, Gypsy, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, a vast majority of children's movies - as I consider a musical to be any film where characters sing spontaneous musical numbers which is the de facto norm in my preferred genre of motion pictures, I could go on listing, but we'd be here for days.

I was brought up with musicals, as my mother loves them dearly, so all of her children do as well. It explains my ultimate dream in life of becoming a Muppet too, since they sing in all their movies.

As a film buff, I freaking love musicals with a passion. On stage, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, West Side Story, The Lion King, all sorts of things. In terms of films, there's so many good ones (and bad ones), but Oliver, the classic Disney films, Hairspray (my first musical that got me "into" them), all sorts of them.

I'm hoping to do some musicals as a filmmaker. Someday. I've got so many dreams. xD

Being a bit of a film buff, I actually try to avoid musicals. I just never really liked them. However I do make the occasional exception. A few that I really enjoy are Sweeney Todd, South Pacific, and West Side Story. Aside form those and maybe a select few, musicals are not my thing.

Because most can be absolute disasters. It's amazing how some filmmakers have no idea how to balance music, plot, and characters sometimes. You've got to have a knowledge in all of it to produce it successfully.

Phantom of the Opera is an example of a musical on screen that went way, way wrong because of the director. It's ridiculous for the most part. Terrible editing, cinematography, AWFUL direction, the writing is... eh (they tried to transfer song lyrics into dialogue - most people don't talk in rhymes, so...). Honestly, a lot of it looks like a Loony Tunes cartoon. Shame, because the on-stage musical is actually quite good.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of musicals at least to the point where I'm going out of my way to see them. However, the one that sprung to mind when I saw this topic was Pas Sur la Bouche, which is a bit of an oddity considering who directed it but I remember having enjoyed it quite a bit.

Saw Phantom live years ago. Would see it again.

The Simpson's homage to Mary Poppins may be my favorite film/tv musical. Probably need to see a few more .

I think my all-time favorite has to be Ragtime: an AMAZING score, great songs and excellent story. Of course I love the biggies, I have yet to see Wicked though. I haven't been able to catch one of the tours yet.

Another one I really (guiltily) liked was Jekyll and Hyde. I saw that one 3 times before it ever went to Broadway! love love loved it!

My all-time favorite musical is Next to Normal, because it's so beautifully well-written, has an amazing score, and the emotion in the show is just...

I'm a big fan of musicals, but I especially like the more modern style of musical.

    Footloose

Just for the musical score I would have to say The Phantom of the Opera.

Screen adaption:West Side Story and the first Hairspary adaption. I also like Mary Poppins.

I usually am more of a music person. I like to listen to the music.

This is also another really amazing musical. It's powerful and the score is to die for. Also, can I say Once?

West Side Story is amazingg. I love the songs, especially A Boy Like That and Something's Coming (I died with happiness when Glee also put their own spin on it.)

Some of my other favorites are Wicked, The Lion King, and Funny Girl.

I absolutely love Spring Awakening, though I can't say I've ever seen it performed in person, unfortunately. :frowning2:
In the way of movies, I went through a pretty intense Grease phase a few years back, and I've always loved The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
