For about a year now i have just downloaded music from youtube but some of the lesser known songs aren't very good quality. I'm thinking about getting raphsody or just buying my songs. How do you get all of your music?

I buy singles I really like from iTunes, and buy CDs for full albums. I love my CD collection :K

You could try torrents. You'd most likely find what you're looking for. I use them sometimes but I always buy the physical album afterwards anyway.

As much as I can, I try to buy full albums on CD. I just feel good to own a physical form with album art and liner notes and stuff like that. For stuff that I'm not that crazy about, there's iTunes.

But I try my best not to download if I can, unless what I'm looking for is so rare, a very small number of people even seem to know about it. Or never had an official release.

    * I buy records and play them into my computer, cleaning them up and saving them as mp3s.
    * I get CDs and rip them.
    * I buy things from iTunes and Amazon.
    * I get a lot of "free song of the day"s from various websites.
    * I've gotten on the promo mailing list for several labels and promotional companies, and they often have fre stuff available.

Now that I have money, by legitimate means. I pay for individual tracks and put them on my computer. I refuse to use proprietary Apple DRM crap.

Itunes, 4share, mediafire, basically zip or rar files

  8. I usually find songs through Google search engine bu typing in

    Intitle:index of (mp3) "bandname.albumname" or just "bandname"

Then go on a site and right click on mp3 files with save link as

The quotation marks are definitely needed in the search bar and use a program that shows whether the site you would click on is safe.

It's helpful without using any music download programs. But I'm not sure you would like it that way.

I'll buy records or CDs. Most newer vinyl releases seem to include a free download code that let's you download a digital copy of the album. So far all the ones I've used have been DRM free.

I haven't bothered to even try recording any of the vinyl into a digital format so I listen to it the old fashioned way at home. It's a pretty inexpensive source for music. For a couple bucks an album at most thrift stores or record stores and a little TLC (cleaning/dusting) I get great sounding music. One of these days I will digitize them and load them on my mp3 player or phone but for now I just chill out with some headphones and lay in bed and listen.

Well, tbh, a lot of my music is from less than legitimate sources lol
When I actually have a more regular job, perhaps in the summer when I'm not in uni, then I'll definitely order physical CD copies and rip them to 320kbps mp3. I've already done so with some of my collection, I hope that eventually I can get all my stuff to be legitimate eventually, since I do feel bad about it, especially with lesser known artists.
Some artists through soundcloud, bandcamp and beatport only offer their stuff through those websites, so in those cases I guess I'd have to get it through there.

I really do hope that one day my money will go directly to the artists instead of to the gigantic record company monoliths controlling them.

I usually use torrents or a creative google search, but I buy a lot of albums too if I like them. Usually on vinyl, occasionally on cd if an album doesn't have a vinyl release.

Quite an expensive hobby, but the vinyl is awesome to have.

I use Mp3juices.com, free and legal, I then move it to itunes and load onto my ipod....its easy to use type in an artist or song name and it will pop up.

iTunes, usually. I love supporting official releases. But if I HAVE to.. I go to youtube, and work my magic from there.
